After nearly a 1 year to the day wait, my SCAR finally has arrived. My overall impression is that everything the SCAR does, my XCR appears to do better.
It's an extremely nice gun and I'll save my final judgement for when I have a couple thousand rounds down range, but overall, I'm not too impressed. My FS2000 and PS90 are still way nicer in terms of finish as there are a lot of "factory" blemishes/nicks on the SCAR. I opened it fresh from the shipping box, so I know it wasn't done at the store, and there was nothing to do the damage inside the box. http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...SCARXCR001.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...SCARXCR002.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...SCARXCR003.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...SCARXCR004.jpg I'll take a bunch of breakdown pictures later on, also comparing it to the XCR, but this is just to post my first impressions. Nice gun, not really too impressed. Incredibly well balanced and a very nice weight, it's ergonomic, and appears to be rather robust other than the stock which seems to have some "plastic play", almost like I could snap it off it I try hard enough. I won't though :p . However, I will never buy an FN Herstal product again. The way they treated their end user in this entire process, and even worse treated, the dealers, is just horrific. I don't know how any dealer would want to buy one of their crappy "packages" ever again. |
Don't say that! A FiveseveN is on my short list.... :(

Damn thats the first unhappy SCAR review ive seen, everyone that has put rounds through mine loves it. I have over 6000rds through mine and it is still my go to semi auto .223 rifle I still love shooting it. My ARs have sat and collected dust since ive gotten mine. How the hell did it take over a year to get your rifle, there are plenty of places with them in stock for MSRP. Heres to hoping the come out with the civvy SCAR Heavy theres no doubt ill be adding that to my collection.
Mike, the Five Seven is a great gun I own one and have nothing bad to say about mine. Is your scope on the XCR on backwards??? |

ANd yes, the SCAR is pretty much JUNK next to the XCR. I've got 12,000 flawless rounds through the XCR, so it's been good, it doesn't just appear robust. Hopefully the SCAR is more robust in function than it is in form. It took a year to get because I ordered it through my dealer, at a very good price. I didn't pay some ridiculous markup like most of the SCAR owners. It's probably the first unhappy review you have seen because it's not from some OMG THE NEW SPEC OPS BATTLE RIFLE nutswinger. I got it because it was supposed to be a good weapon, and I admire a good weapon that I can bring to the range, shoot some targets, and just have fun. Assuming that it functions as good as the reviews say it performs, I'll still keep it. The first platform induced malfunction it gives me though, it's gone. From my initial impression, my FS2000 is going to blow the SCAR away for fun time. |
damn somebody pissed in your cheerios

The bolt release irks me as well. WHY did they keep it the same as the AR???? It's just not ergonomic. |
just gave mine a test run I held the rifle flat and held onto the stock and shook the rifle up and down as hard as I can... still in one piece
I dig that XCR I was looking at them before I got my REC7 they are really nice guns |
I'm not saying shake the rifle. Do exactly what I described, it really feels like with just a bit more pressure, you can snap it. Maybe mines defective with a lower grade polymer, I don't know.
Did yours have a couple scratches in the upper as well? The largest damage is to the back of the charging handle, looks like it's been shot quite a few times. |
mine arrived minty fresh
are there marks on the charging handle itself or on the ejection port like the sig 556s get?? |

I ended up stopping up at the firing line tonight right outside of whitehall. Forgot how quick it was to go through rounds. This was my first time firing the gun. Blew through about 100 rounds in a matter of 15 minutes. Thats with having to reload the clips after every 29 rounds.

it's called a magazine :)

I am waiting for the HK MR223. I cannot get and HK 416 now because its a SBR and live in a city where its not easy to get an SBR. I cant wait to compare it to the other AR15 platforms on the market.

Speaking of the FN's, how hard is it to get the 5.7 rounds?
|
not, lots of gun dealers have them I order mine in bulk off the internet, online is always in stock

I always laughed at how people said that it wasn't readily available ammo, when everyone around here had it. Then they would bring up the price, only to learn that it's cheaper than any quality 5.56/.223 ammo. |
