Is it necessary to drink and relax?

Smoking and drinking are 2 things that are close. You can replace one word in another and have essentially the same sentence.

I went out for a drink with my friends.
I went out for a smoke with my friends.

Honestly, neither is necessary. We do it because we have a choice. When the choice comes to dropping it, it's a little more difficult if you do it all the time or have a set routine.

im not saying its necessary, i just dont understand the strong relation the 2 have together. oh well.

For me, I associate coffee with smoking.

Pisses me off when I'm having some coffee and I go to take a puff and there's no lit cig.

Well, not pisses me off, but it's weird.
