i agree with Mike a bit... this place has gotten quite a bit stricter... and I assume its b/c there is a need to keep the growing number of users in check.

I see no reason to police off topic as much as is now being done. If a thread goes off topic, and no one is getting upset... or there is no "flame war" going on... whats the harm in letting it go on? People are using the forum and having a good time... we're showing potential new users that we're a jolly bunch.

I've never seen a forum so strict in regards to the off topic section than this place.... and if i didn't enjoy talking with a handful of the people on here i would have moved on myself.

I mean, i really don't contribute elsewhere on this forum... but no one is really asking questions about SRT-4's or classic chevy trucks...

Well, IMO, if every thread goes off topic in off topic, there will never really be a thread with any purpose lol, nothing would be relevant anymore.

every thread starts off relevant... then falls further and further down the page till its never discussed again. Only so much can be said on a topic here... and usually topics fuel other topics... it a conversation naturally flows from one thing to another... where is the harm in letting it go?

As long as no one is getting hurt, there shouldn't be a reason to pass out infraction points like candy and for a mod to waste their time cleaning something up.

I don't know about other people on here... but i've got a fairly thick skin... it doesn't bother me one bit if a thread evolves... or is just downright taken off topic... but most of the off topic threads evolve from one topic to another... something gets said, and a new conversation is started around that.

EXACTLY!!! Thank you. And I do try to contribute when I can. But going off topic in an off topic section doesn't even make sense.

I disagress. People will still read the 1st post and reply to the intended topic thus pulling it all back to the original topic. But like I said before, I don't have conversation with friends and about one thing and then repremand them when we start to take the topic in a different direction. That's what allows for freedom of thought and expression. It spawns new ideas.

ASIAN JUL 11-21-2008 02:06 PM

I obviously have gone off topic before, as I'm sure we all have. But if a topic keeps getting really off topic, why not just refer to the Whatever thread? Lol or just post a sentence underneath relevant to the topic. I mean, I'm not saying topics will always stay on topic, but if it's really getting to the point of irrelevancy to the OP, and you KNOW infractions/warnings/deleting will come.. why not just go to this thread?

Oakes 11-21-2008 02:06 PM

:( Does it count that I still love you.

HOMO.

Om my god, I'm glad someone else sees what I'm trying to say. This STAY ON TOPIC bull**** in a section that is OFF TOPIC doesn't make sense. The mods have such an issue with it because NO ONE IS NORMALLY LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE!!!

Because why should we have to go from one off topic thread to another off topic thread to be off topic. I've tried that and not everyone follows. It just isn't logical. I think in all sections OTHER THAN Off Topic these rules should apply. But when we're ALREADY off topic, it seems a little counter productive to enforce such rules there.
