nice quick check, good idea. shoulda done that last weekend. I believe it's coming off this weekend so I will have an update.

insulin...yeah yeah, errbody wants my talon. I wouldn't mind if someone dropped a built 6-bolt in it :)

I know your pain.. I've had 3 engines in my galant already this year alone. The second engine I had timed it myself and used a gates belt / pulleys, and beck water pump. I had thought the kit came with a new tensioner but it was just the tensioner pulley. I read somewhere on an eclipse forums that I could re-use my hydraulic tensioner, so I did that. 5k miles down the road my timing belt skipped 8 teeth while deceleration and bent 12 intake valves. Guess what, the tensioner failed and lesson learned.

Sounds to me like your hydraulic tensioner failed or your tension pulley bolt was not tight enough. Either way sorry to hear, throw a tarp over it like others have said and come back to it for next year...

i just figured that with all new pulleys, seals, tensioner, belt, head and a mechanic installing it things would be fine.

guess not.

Should have been.. Some one messed up or something went wrong. It's sad when you have to keep the timing belt in the back of your mind while accelerating and decelerating all the time. I never want to do a long trip with my car anymore, too much worry.

HaveBlue83 09-22-2011 08:52 PM

and you know what....THAT reason alone killed any kind of long drive in the car ever......and that KILLS the fun of it now.

I dunno HOW u could drive a pos beater like that in public.....u cant use moms car instead?? :P

EklipzGSXkid 09-26-2011 05:55 PM

If that is your beater, I'm curious as to what is your nice car, And also your weekend car? Everyone uses the term '' it's just my dd/beater ETC'' when it's a nice car. Which always leads me to ask what their race car, And weekend car is? That 1g is EXTREMLY nice !

Foolinaround 09-26-2011 05:56 PM

I miss my all wheel, apparently it was out and about KOP the other night.

Someone sent me a photo of my car from a meet last week.
Rolled past 255k miles 2 weeks ago.

I really need to rip the insulation off the firewall. It's all ripped up from a mouse (sat for 2 weeks waiting for a timing belt) and it's bugging me.

HaveBlue83 09-27-2011 11:46 PM

lil update on mine: intake jumped, all intake valves are toast. the HKS 272 is gouged and i assume trash...thats what mad me mad the most. cracker a roller in half on one of the rockers.

selling some wheels/tires to find a rebuild. if I find my mechanic didin't tighter the eccentric he will be paying my $500 back I paid him to help me.

a DSM guy is gonna get me one of his heads for CHEAP to help me out. I am looking at a 264 for the intake now....may be better for the 16G powerband-wise.

I'm tempted to run no top cover now so I can check my belt weekly/whenever I want to.

Got Insulin? 09-28-2011 12:15 AM

Don't run with no top cover. That's how you wind up sucking up bolts and debris into your timing belt and have to go through this again. Fork over the cash for a clear one, or put it on with just two bolts.

knochgoon24 09-28-2011 03:38 AM

I'm getting a middle cover off Rob so I can finally put my timing belt covers all back on. I'm tired of tempting fate. Eventually, I'm going to get a clear top cover.
