I recognize alot of those back drops

That's crazy low. How did it handle the bowl drops on the dragon?

PunkboySL2 11-02-2012 11:03 PM

Not a problem at all, no scrapes. Only problem we had was coming out of really tight corners with an open diff and hitting boost lol

Started her up for the first time in a week today since I've been in Texas and she was a tad rough starting up, but ran good on the way to work. Still debating going to a log style manifold since the current one is pretty janky. Nice to be back in a boosted vehicle.

Trying to get a photo shoot going asap before I put her into winter mode which will include:

- installing a stock throttle body with IAC to help with cold start ups
- raising it back up an inch or two
- installing winter wheels/tires
- fixing/finishing interior to go from tan to gray

why not stick with the black wheels? i think it looks so much meaner with them

PunkboySL2 11-18-2012 02:24 AM

They aren't my wheels, I was just borrowing them for the trip to NC. I'm going with either black or silver next season.

Not too much to update here, but since updating the car as made it to North Carolina and back as well as OCMD for H2Oi this past weekend. Two weeks ago I pulled the car apart to do a head gasket (though I found out after pulling it apart that it didn't need it), but I installed ARP headstuds as well as some rebuilt lifters and a new thermostat. I have to say the car is running pretty great, but the exhaust manifold is pretty much done. I need to either get this OBX manifold installed or fab something new (which is what I'm leaning towards. Now that I know the motor is solid I planning on turning up the boost a few more PSI to give it a little more get up and go. Anyway here are a few more recent pics.

In NC on the Skyline drive near Tail of The Dragon on 17x8s with 235 Toyo R1Rs:

How she's sitting now:

Looking for some new wheels here very soon.

Slapped extra TurboXS boost controller I had lying around, went up about 2psi, brand new MSII harness, retuned, full boost I have it set around 11.5:1 - 11.7:1 for safety, runs great. I actually soldered all of my connections for once so I know it's all solid. If it's cold it really won't get traction in 2nd, the 45ish degree inlet temps really help this thing rip. Still running stock timing, we'll see how well this thing holds up at ~8-9 PSI. I don't think the car was ever hitting a full 7psi on wastegate spring pressure and a quick glance at the laptop last night in boost it was around 160 kPa which should be just about 9PSI. I would love to get it dyno'd if I had the extra cash, but I think much more power than this and it's going to start bending rods haha.

Here's the new set up. I had to swap on a different hot side, the stock ford one went out. A little bigger wheel on this guy so it takes a bit longer to spool, but it's not too bad.

If you want to use an external wastegate with an OBX manifold this is the way to do it. I bought a $40 adapter for an external wastegate and it just clears the block with the tial 38. I know part of the problem with the OBX manifold is that because of the cheaper metal getting real hot they can crack, I figure this adapter should help seperate a little heat from the manifold. Also This time I bought thicker exhaust tubing for the downpipe so this should be a bit more solid. I did all of the measuring and cutting and had my buddy weld it all for me. For being a gasless mig it turned out pretty damn well, there is obviously some splatter, but it just adds to the..... patina?

The crack started on the outside of the turbo from the wastegate port and went inside and did all kinds of crazy stuff. I'm surprised it didn't seem to run any different.

Oh yeah we'll be fabbing the wastegate dump this coming weekend. I'll get pics of all that stuff as well. I want to put it pretty much straight down although I considered running it up through the hood or out of the bumper lolz.

love this car! what did you ever end up doing with the yellow wrx? i still feel like crap about that whole situation

PunkboySL2 11-22-2013 11:19 PM

^it's all good man, I'm not mad about it. I ended up selling it to my buddy who now has it for sale again. He put all new suspension into the rear end of the car adjustable everything and the camber is barely passable. I think when it got hit and pulled they pulled the strut tower too far so the car will never be straight, had a buddy who does body work point that out, but we both missed it.

bump, car is for sale, PM me for more info
