'round here we have a pretty even split between nikon/canon shooters. it really comes down to what you feel comfortable with. I shoot canon, i've also shot nikon and I couldn't be happier. just get out and try a few different things to see what you like.

yes i have looked at the canon but im not looking at something like that my olympus already has mostly the same options as the canon. After using my dads D80 i am thinking of going more towards one like that i guess u can call it more professiotnal. My olympus is a good point and shoot camera but i want to move on but thanks for the help |

just for the record, I Like Rice DOES NOT use a point and shoot camera. He is a professional photographer with years of experience and thousands of dollars in camera equipment. im not sure if you're confusing what has been said but none of the people that have given you advice are shooting with a point and shoot camera

ah thanks. i was speaking more towards their DSLR counterparts. stillen, if you're thinking of seriously getting into photography, getting a DSLR is not a bad idea. they can be had for pretty cheap nowadays. the only reason we said to consider a point and shoot is because in your first few posts you said you were looking at very high end cameras, and THOSE at this point would be overkill. an entry level DSLR on the other hand, would be fine.

Stillen. I would highly recommend a Canon Rebel XTi. They are very user friendly and a great beginner camera. As it happens, I have one for sale if you would be interested. I would favor the XTi over say the Nikon D40/x/60 because the canon is able to autofocus its lenses as the D40/x/etc. will only autofocus certain lenses.
