'round here we have a pretty even split between nikon/canon shooters. it really comes down to what you feel comfortable with. I shoot canon, i've also shot nikon and I couldn't be happier. just get out and try a few different things to see what you like.

I have a olympus sp-500uz which i guess is a good point and shoot camera but after using it i have found that i like photograpphy and never go to a car event with out it. My dad got the D80 a little while ago and i play with the thing all the time. After playing with his D80 i was thinking of getting something similar. I know nikon makes good ones but what else is out there i want to check out different brands to see which one is the best and maybe u guys can help with ur experience. It would be greatly appriciated for ur help

alot of Guy's are recommending just a regular Digital camera, basically a P&S I like rice has, stated the Canon G10 is a pretty good starter camera.

jspek 11-30-2008 03:49 PM

to look at images from cameras check here
http://www.flickr.com/cameras/

yes i have looked at the canon but im not looking at something like that my olympus already has mostly the same options as the canon. After using my dads D80 i am thinking of going more towards one like that i guess u can call it more professiotnal. My olympus is a good point and shoot camera but i want to move on but thanks for the help

Yea it even give's a graph on the camera's to

just for the record, I Like Rice DOES NOT use a point and shoot camera. He is a professional photographer with years of experience and thousands of dollars in camera equipment. im not sure if you're confusing what has been said but none of the people that have given you advice are shooting with a point and shoot camera

Ive looked into the sameone your dad's has, they saying its not practical at this time. I just have to go to a camera store, and see some camera's for myself and see which one i like best.

im not sure if you think Canon only makes point and shoot cameras but they and nikon are the top two competitors for professional and amateur photography gear.

yea but he recommend to me the G10 would be best. If i wanted to go the SLR route at this time, but after your post's and realizing the idea's your giving it wouldnt be logical at this time to get an SLR.

Nikon P&S cameras, for the money, don't offer the same value as the Canon P&S. Nikon are fine for someone that will stay in auto mode, but the Canon image quality in auto and manual mode is superior to the Nikon counterparts.

Nah i know both nikon and canon make great professional cameras. When my dad was looking for his D80 he was looking at both companies. Im just trying to see what other people think of what else is out there since my dad can be one sided sometimes

97TurboDSM 11-30-2008 04:05 PM

ah thanks. i was speaking more towards their DSLR counterparts. stillen, if you're thinking of seriously getting into photography, getting a DSLR is not a bad idea. they can be had for pretty cheap nowadays. the only reason we said to consider a point and shoot is because in your first few posts you said you were looking at very high end cameras, and THOSE at this point would be overkill. an entry level DSLR on the other hand, would be fine.

The reason the people in this forum are saying that is not pratical is that this is the begining of ur photo career my dad has had a olympous point and shoot for about 6 years and he was playing around with that before he moved on to the D80. He saw that he like to take pics from his point and shoot and went to move on to something bigger. And he has got me into the pic taking thing also and i am looking into moving on since i am also trying to find a photo class somewhere since my college dosent have it

yea, My buddy has the same camera as your dad, Mercer has class's you should look into it, I will eventually.

97TurboDSM 11-30-2008 04:12 PM

Stillen. I would highly recommend a Canon Rebel XTi. They are very user friendly and a great beginner camera. As it happens, I have one for sale if you would be interested. I would favor the XTi over say the Nikon D40/x/60 because the canon is able to autofocus its lenses as the D40/x/etc. will only autofocus certain lenses.

mustang08 11-30-2008 04:14 PM

yeah im gonna look into mercer but right now with college and two jobs its kinda hard too. Well wait since i work at mercer as i lifeguard maybe i can get some kind of deal lol but first im gonna do research with books and interent to see what level class i should take and stuff
