nice.. was it the one that won 2nd or 3rd? and what category?

Scapegoat 11-09-2008 08:11 PM

It won third place in the spiced/herb/vegetable category

I was beat by a Chile Beer which came in 2nd, yes it was spicy...
and first place was a chocolate irish stout... I guess the chocolate is considered a vegetable due to it being derived from a bean.

My chocolate peppermint stout came in second in the specialty beers category, which is pretty much a free for all for beers that don't fall into a specific style. The only reason i didn't come in first place is due to "chunks" in it... which there are little flakes which are a residue of the boiling of the chocolate which does a good job of separating out the fats and wax. The chunks, being extremely small though noticeable, aren't that pleasant to look at and most people are a little worried about drinking them... but they're harmless since they're in the baking chocolate anyway.

My next batch i need to filter those flakes out... so i can pull a first place with my beer that apparently tastes identical to a peppermint patty

unfortunately, i am nearly out of the chocolate peppermint stout and need to retain them for when i brew my next batch... will need them to compare

I kind of have an urge to step into a store and look at stuff because I forget how it feels to buy clothing at a store
