well i could call it an ap2 but you woudnt of gotten that

MPowerKai 08-11-2007 11:17 AM

Yes get the S2000!!

You can buy an AP1 with slightly higher mileage for around 12k, perhaps a little less if you look hard enough.
AP2 you are looking at 22k and above.

Honestly I used to like my AP1 a lot but now the AP2 is really growing on me, I like the gauge cluster more and the looks.

If you do buy the S2000 is is very important to check the retainers, they break sometimes when over-revved. The Honda dealership will most likely not do this for you but I know a guy who does great work...infact his S2k waiting list is 3 months lol.

Not to hijack the thread, but what did your "fully built" NA S2K run? I know they aren't drag cars, but that is just about all we have for general comaprison of how fast it is. Through plenty of reading and talking to people with seriously modded S2K's, people with turbo's and supercharger's seriously struggle to run anything faster than very high 12's. The car is built for handling, not much else. Given how high strung that motor is from the factory it takes a lot of work to make any kind of serious power gain and the rear diffs are a known weak point in a drag application...can you say wheel hop?

I would not consider it a fast car, nor a mod friendly car. It is a fun, sexy car that I wouldn't mind bombing through some corners in. However, when we talk fast cars, S2K's are not at the top of many peoples list.

Also, as for LS1's running 14's, that must have been one bad driver. LS1 Vette's can easily run mid-12's, LS1 F-bodies easily run high-12's and LS1 GTO's run low-13's with a competent driver. So, the best S2K's run 13.7's @ ~100 stock, where as LS1's run high-12's on average at ~108.

Not sure what it ran. It wasn't built for drag. I only ran it at the dragstrip to tune it. I was going high 13's without launching(over 2.6 60's) or shifting quickly at all. I've seen boosted S2k's run the same times you state, but I've seen them go low 12's, high 11's with a good amount of boost. Most of those guys just aren't forum junkies so you don't hear about it too much. The rear diffs are known to break when the vehicle is launched improperly. I got zero wheel hop in the S, but launching at 7k usually keeps that away. haha.

I agree completely about the LS1 drivers being bad drivers, I'm just stating that since you said that most people can't run high 13's in S2k's. Many can't run those high 12's in LS1's. At least, the guys I've seen at the track.

You can't deny that a car with only 4 cylinders and a convertible, going high 13's is not impressive. I think that is quite good when you take into comparison similar vehicles in it's class.

You definately need one with a hard top and white work emotions, DUMPED to the ground.

I didnt think they sold that low either, thats why i never even considered one, but then my friends little brother looked at one a few weeks ago for 10k with 95,000 miles. That was one of those rare deals that you gotta jump on asap. But if I wait wil october/november when its starts to get cold when convertible prices drop, I can get one in the area of 100k, I'll be able to find one around 11k.

Idk where you've been looking lol, but 2g manuals sell pretty well, esp 2gb manuals. When I was dsm shopping in March of 06, and then again in Jan 07-June 07, Its was vvvvery difficult to find 2g manuals for decent prices, there were convertibles everywhere it seemed but I wanted a hatch.

I just looked on autotrader recently and there still arent many 2g sticks. And most of the ones that are are beign sold by dealerships and they're listed for some crazy ass prices (ex. a stock 97 2gb manual w/ 140k for 6k... ****ing out of their minds lol)

Exactly, I know I cant afford an AP2, and I really like the styling of them more too, but i'm being realistic here lol.

idk what the "retainers" are either but i'll find out. Good, thats 2 things I know of that I need to check when looking at one, thanks lol

MissDSM 08-13-2007 10:10 AM

A couple examples of people out of their ****ing minds lol. I searched within 300miles of 95-99 manual talons and eclipses with over 100k... and people actually pay this much for these things lol
96 GST 121k-$5999

98 GST 140k-$8200

96 TSi 104k-$5900

97 GST 136k-$5500

and thats just the fwds, im not even getting into the gsx's with 117k and 125k for $10k!

I plan on first listing the Talon for 5, and the gst for 6. I see practically no turbo manual dsms for 5, and no 2gb manuals for 6 with the same mileage as mine, so if i can get that.. im sure as hell gonna try lol. If I get no offers ill drop it down.

Sberk06 08-13-2007 12:45 PM

do it then!

Dave 08-13-2007 12:49 PM

retainers = valve retainers steph, its the metal washer looking dude that keeps the valvesprings on

MPowerKai 08-13-2007 05:38 PM

This is when I was repairing my car after an over-rev. They are the circular things. 8 cracked retainers and 4 bent valves

ok well this it to missDSM too

me coming from a a turbo sentra (kinda like a GST) to an s2k, was the best decision i made. i love my s2k, and its pretty quick i have I/H/E, test pipe, ad a tune and it moves pretty well.

MissDSM 08-14-2007 09:48 AM

^^True... But to the few people that have/had s2000's, do you see a lot ofpeople selling their hardtops? I dont think i'm going to be able to spend 4k on a new one.

and how do you know when the retainers are cracked?

SexyDSM95 08-14-2007 11:10 AM

Wow...those people are on crack. I bought my 95 GSX pretty much stock only with an ACT2600 for $3k flat w/ 90k miles. If you needed help why didn't you ask? Does Pete not know how to work on DSM's? You will miss the turbo I am very sure of it. IMHO I would fix up the GS-T, sell it, and get a 1G lol. So much easier to work on, cheaper, and you probably have half the parts for spares anyway.

a decent amount of people sell their hardtops when they are selling their cars. Generally you can pick one up in the ballpark of 2k, sometimes with hardware sometimes without. Hardware costs around 400 dollars.

You can see if you take the valve cover off on the car but once you get it I can get you in touch with this guy Bill. It will be a little bit of a drive for you and the waiting list is 3 months for his once over but it's definately worth it. You would also have to be a paid up member of s2ki but it's only 20 bucks.

Once over:

Custom Valve adjustment, retainer inspection, & spark plug torque check
Air filter
cabin filter
oil change Mobil1 & PCX filter, or ck oil and fliter torque
dif fluid change with Mobil1 75W90
trans fluid change with NEW Honda MTF
clutch fluid change
brake fluid change
spark plug replacement (Honda S2000 spec'd NGK's, not the ones you buy online)
clutch adj
throttle adj
inspect serp belt
air psi
Coolant flush
axle nut tsb
topdown mod
AC mod (02-07)
check brakes
general check-up

Priced individually, only services needed are done.

If your gonna spend $2000 on a hardtop, you may as well get the Mugen FRP but then you're gonna have to get it painted and such.

Perhaps a Mugen FRP "STYLE" hardtop but an actual one from Mugen costs over 3k, used.
