Ok. So I know i cant buy a handgun before i turn 21, however, if a parent gifts it to me, is it registered to me or them? Also, what do you guys thing of the sw 40gve and the springfield xd 40? I really dont want to go any smaller than a 40 but am unable to go look at a federally liscensed dealer due to being 20.

it would be registered to ur parents, meaning u cant transport it anywhere, and caliber means nothing if you cant hit the target

So what would you guys suggest for a first time gun owner looking to carry? I'll be turning 21 in a month, and I want to get my license to carry, but I'm unsure of what to get. I DO HAVE experience with guns, just thought I would throw that in there. Probably not nearly as much as a lot of you guys in here, but I know how to safely handle a fire arm, etc. Any suggestions?

On another note, I find it absolutely hilarious how they make it so you can start carrying a gun and start drinking at the same time, LMFAO!

for something carry wise, i would say nothing full size buy a sub or full compact....and really whatever make of gun you like. caliber wise its up to you, if your accurate with a 45mm or a 357 round do it! but i like to carry 9mm for accuracy but thats my preference, everybody is different.

blkZ06 03-21-2009 09:40 PM

People like to talk about "stopping power" with .45s and big caliber guns, if your a crappy shot then it doesn't matter what kind of lead your throwing down range. I would say get a 9mm, you can get compacts and subcompacts that still carry plenty of rounds instead of getting a bigger caliber gun that if you don't practice with it can be harder to keep on target and doesn't have as much lead in the mag.

Again people talk about stopping power from big rounds but if you drill someone with a couple rounds of 9mm odds are they are not gonna be in the best of shape. Remember the first accurate shot ends the fight, if you can't hit what your shooting at all your doing is making noise.

This is what I carry daily, Glock 23 .40cal 13rd mag and one in the pipe, LaserMax and magazine extension

There is no registration in PA.

Your parent/grandparent can gift a handgun to you at 18 with no paper trail.

If you live in another state, I'm of no help. My best advice would be to try different calibers in different frame sizes, makes, and models, and decide what gun you want from there. Don't limit yourself to .40.

dragonfly2k3 03-22-2009 11:12 PM

So how do i proceed when going to get my liscense to carry later? The gun isnt registered at all? Also, I am certainly not limiting myself to a .40, but I have massive hands and am going to almost need to get something fullsize(xl/xxl glove size). Being that I would like to get a fullsize and do ALOT of range shooting i figured a .40 is a good place to start looking. I do like the larger round, and i feel as though in a fullsize the trade off of capacity is worth it.

blkZ06 03-23-2009 12:40 AM

you go to your local sheriffs dept and apply for it

side note, came across a deal today so picked this stuff up

Double Star AR15

Polytech AK (Almost Kalashnikov) 47

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...k/IMG_1198.jpg

Couple rounds of 7.62

dragonfly2k3 03-23-2009 10:48 AM

if you dont mind me asking, what does the ar-15 go for?

blkZ06 03-23-2009 11:44 AM

ARs MSRP is around 1000ish but with everyone scared of Obama laying bans down prices are way up and lots of places are sold out entirely. Look to pay 1400-2000+ for an assault rifle now.

The AK47 goes for 1000 also, in the world of AK copies the Polytech is one of the better ones. I got them both for a steal im going to sit on them and see if new sale bans are actually set up if they do their worth is going through the roof.

Dann, check out a local Sportsmans club. They usually offer some sort of learning courses.

I just got my first carry gun and my concealed permit a little while ago. I got a Bersa Thunder .380 as my carry gun. Not really sure what I will get next. It's an awesome carry gun though.
