What state are you in?

If PA;

Quote:

§ 6115. Loans on, or lending or giving firearms prohibited.
(a) Offense defined.--No person shall make any loan secured
by mortgage, deposit or pledge of a firearm, nor, except as
provided in subsection (b), shall any person lend or give a
firearm to another or otherwise deliver a firearm contrary to
the provisions of this subchapter.
(b) Exception.--
(1) Subsection (a) shall not apply if any of the
following apply:
(i) The person who receives the firearm is licensed
to carry a firearm under section 6109 (relating to
licenses).
As long as no money is transferred, yes, you should be good. If money is transferred, it needs to be done at an FFL (for handguns, longarms need no legal transfer in PA).

So, if you have your LTCF, your friend (whoever), can "loan" you his firearm. I can't find anything saying that you cannot then carry this firearm, be it open or concealed. If its legally loaned to you, and you can legally carry, I can't see, IMHO, where the law would frown on that...nor can I find a reference to its illegality.

www.pafoa.com is a wealth of info for this stuff...

Timely discussion

I already carry a springfield xd45 4" with the desert frame and black slide. Just purchased a brand new colt ar-15. Cant wait to go shoot it. So pretty much what ive read is the best ammo to run though this is either remmington or wolf? Any other brands ud reccomend? and also any sites where you can buy in bulk, like a case or more at a time for discounted price? Will post pics asap. Getting my package of my 3-9x42mm scope, and command arms tactical flashlight mounted to the front sight.

I have a question.

Im not a fan of guns at all, I dont like them and would prefer we have no need for them.

I just got a house and have a decently modded car and I'm fairly young. So out side it may seem like I have a little money. With the economy in the current status its in right now I've decided that getting a gun to keep in the house for safety isnt so unreasonable. Nothing scares a robber like one in the chamber.

Now my question is, what gun is the most reasonable, and effective. I also have never even fired a gun before so I would like to know where are good places to do this.

IMO First thing you need to do is sign up for some kind of classes. something like this

Quote:

Basic Safety Course

This course will train you from the beginning. It covers safety, stance, trigger pull, sight alignment, cleaning and much more. The course is a NRA certified course and at the end you receive a certificate that shows that you have completed a safety course. This course is on-going and is usually reserved for a maximum of 6 students.
Then once you know what you're doing you can make a decision for yourself.

I carry a KelTec P3AT

Smith and Wesson luger 9mm!
my pops has one of these and took me out shooting for my first time real easy to use and not much kick

012.5RS 01-14-2009 11:25 AM

id def reccomend taking a safety course first. and for a first time owner most prefer 9mm. Also if u have friends who are gun owners id reccomend going to the range with them and try their guns and rent some at the shop. Get a feel for what you like, size, power, weight, price, if your gonna carry or just for home protection. if u want shoot me a pm, u can try my xd45 if ud like. I'm prob going to classic pistol in southampton this saturday.

Buster 01-14-2009 11:30 AM

Thanks alot guys, lol I was afraid of the responses I might get.

My dad has a 9mm so I may have him take me out to shoot. I just want to make sure that Susie, my home and our stuff is safe. I don't ever plan on carrying. I'm also looking into a gun safe.

Good idea and if you ever plan on getting a carry permit i would do it now before any legislation changes.

012.5RS 01-14-2009 11:40 AM

id go get a liscence to carry now, even though u dont plan on carrying. with obama getting in god knows what is gonna happen. Its only like $45 or so and takes about 20mins to get. If your going to get a safe, get one that will secure to either wall studs or floor joists. a safe does no good if u can just pick it up and take it with you, cause theyll just open it later. :)

I used to work for Permavault so I can get a pretty decent one.

Why are guns so cheap? The guys at work were telling me that for 400 you can get a really nice gun?

Yes, used are out there too, most shops have a used section.

Go to a range where you can rent, and try out as much as you can. Some will fit YOU better then others.

Im sure this is true, I have stubby fingers lol. I dont know it I could handle a bigger gun. Like I said though, just to protect what I've worked hard for and since its already been proven that crime has shot through the roof in the last 6 months I dont want to be caught with my pants down. Luckly I live in a nice area but it doesnt mean it wont happen.

i just got my colt ar from cp just on fri. :) also depends on peoples view of a "good" gun. glocks are a good starter gun. less expensive, easily broken down and cleaned, good safe action system. i used to have a 36 which is a .45 cal sub compact slimline. smallest glock, prob i had was such a large bullet in such a small barrel it would jam A LOT!
