for all the Subaru guys "Subaru Night Before Christmas" twas the night before christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring except me clicking the mouse through the nasioc.com forums i did surf with care in hopes that saint nick would sell me his spare the children were nestled all snug in their beds while visions of rota wheels rolled through their heads and ma in her teddy and i in my subaru cap had just settled down for a nice little nap when down the street there arose such a clatter i jumped in my rex to see what was the matter away down the road i flew like a flash redline i did hit and the gas i did mash the headlights hitting the new fallen snow gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below when, what to my wondering eyes should appear but a tricked out ricer, with full apc gear he was a fat old driver, feeling cocky and quick i knew in a moment, he was probably a dick more rapid than a yugo his engine it came he whistled and shouted, but still he was lame now, greddy! now, garrett! now, perrin and sti-key! on, hellas! on, accessport! on, hks and boost-monkey To the top of third gear, He'd hit the wall Now in my mirror, my mirror, in he did fall At home in the weather when the wild snow fly, When approaching an obstacle confident - was I, So up to the stop-sign, the victor I knew, With gifts in the trunk - felt like St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard that poor goof, The old man pulled up - asking for even more proof As I pointed my hand, and turned it around I let out the clutch while the engine was wound The car jerked and bucked controlled by my foot, With all wheels spinning it was hard to stay put. A plethra of snow I had flung from the back, Trying to keep up - the gear box he did hack. His eyes - how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up in a whoa, And by now you'd think he wouldn't have bothered to go; His expression then changed, went angry - clenched teeth, And his car jerked forward with something new underneath; He started gaining on me, one hand on his celi, This coundn't be possible, he passed booming nelli! He looked chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon he was far out in front - I knew I was dead. He drove like an ace now, i'll forget not that smirk, And the license plate "Santa" - I felt like a jerk, And then he slowed down so we had matched nose, And giving a thumbs up, the car and he rose. For this was his sleigh, Santa's own import missile, All decked out, rice, to sucker me in for dismissal. However, I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight, "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!" |

cool. Lip is nice but boost is nicer. I have also never experienced cowl shake in any miata I know what it is and I doubt a little lip is going to change much, I read Its mainly a tire balance and aligment issue. |
Well you read wrong. No offense. Cowl shake is a problem with the NA, and it has NOTHING to do with tires or alignment. Sure, both of these things help..but they dont solve it. A good strut bar helps it as well, as do some under car braces. the front lip is very functional. If you do some research, you will see that the Stock R package lip was proven in wind tunnels before it was put on the Na R package cars. People who dont have the R package, but add the lip notice a significant drop in wobble and lift of the front end. The Garage Vary, used the same tests when it was built. It was built to do the same things as the stock R package lip, but it has wider brake vents and a more sloped build to it. Creates more down force on the front end. Sort of how Canyards work on race cars. |

i got my front lip ..but dont know if i should put it on yet since i always take my car up to the Poconos |

Ide wait till after winter. Otherwise = snow plow BTW CN, I wasnt trying to argue at all. Just sharing what I know. Its not all stuff that ive read, but Ive driven 3 types of NA miatas. No lip (mine) Rpackage lip and Garage Vary lip. In that order...the first one has no downforce, the Rpackage give you a little bit more, and the GV changes things completely. The faster you go, the better it works. Having a good suspension also helps. When I put my coilovers on, a lot of the issue went away. |
its only a ebay lip that i bought and got painted =] |
Put it on then :) I want to see you push snow around. You have pix of it? I wanna see |
BTW..fun fact. Modified mag or maybe SCC did a comparison once and put a GV lip on a miata and it outperformed almost every other car they had ever tested on their slalom course and also posted some pretty high numbers on their small road course as well. I'll try to find it.. |

The black part? DO ITZ! Does anyone know how to find magazine articles? I need one from the SCC Magazine from October 2005 volume lol.... |

If I stand at a light near a wall I can see my HID cutoff almost horizontal. Traveling at even 50mph on the highway I can see the light pointed down significantly. I doubt it has so much to do with my lip, rather the entire shape of the car, especially the front end. About all I can say on that topic. You gotta work with what u got. |
Your car was the best designed of ALL miatas, besides the NA R package. the R package amazes me in handling.. But no doubt the MSM has the highest stock power output. My car however..is not an MSM OR an R package. I started with a base base model Miata. So I have to fine tune things. Another reason you dont notice the lift found in the NA is because the NA is about 600 pounds lighter then the NB...and MY NA is probably about 800 pounds lighter then a stock NB. I have a LOT of weight taken out of my car, though youde never know it. From putting in a tiny ass battery, to removing metal parts that I find useless...But all stuff you cant see from looking at the car. |
Weight of my car stock is 2525 or so according to mazda-speed.com and what owners have measured. Weight of your car stock is around 2200-2300 according to miata.net It's still a difference though, plus your front is more rounded, your front bumper looks like it would generate a good bit of lift because there is nothing on the bottom so I can see where the lip would help. |
Ya my bumper is just a big mouth that scoops air right into the engine bay. Good for cooling i guess lol..AWFUL for lift. The base model NA miata weighs in at 2116 pounds. No power windows no blah blah. Last time my car was weighed (2 weeks ago) it came in at 2027 pounds..with the softtop folded down and the hardtop installed. I could cut easily another 45 pounds by removing the hardtop...or more by removing the soft top. Though im not sure the exact #s of the soft tops weight. The front end is awfully light. The aluminum hood doesnt help. Here I am complaining about lift..when some peoples cars on here weigh 4Gs LOL. But either way, something needs to be done with my lift issue. Now this brings up another problem. I can add the GV front lip and give me some noticeable down force in the front..but this is going to cause the rear to get a little happy. So that will need to be addressed as well. |
