Sounds like the sub was wired down to 2ohms, and you bridged that on the amp, right? might be over driving the amp

grimm 12-15-2011 10:25 AM

I tried to replace my headunit in my truck last night for the 2nd time. still can't get audio out of it. Not sure wtf is up I'm using a harness, in fact i swapped to a 2nd harness to rule it out. ugh!!

jpalamar 12-15-2011 10:26 AM

I want a steak.

grimm 12-15-2011 10:44 AM

did somebody say steak???

actually just got a delivery of omaha steaks from my dad. I don't why he wastes his money on that crap. although the non-steak stuff is pretty good. Had Chicken Kiev last night that was banging!!

jpalamar 12-15-2011 10:48 AM

Their peppered choped steak wasn't bad.

The coils are wired in parallel which means 2 ohm? And the amp currently isn't bridged, the sub hits really hard so I am going to leave it alone.

grimm 12-15-2011 11:16 AM

it's not terrible food, just for the price it isn't anything special.

You'll get the most power wiring the sub in parallel and the amp in bridged but that is the most stressful configuration as well. Most of my amps are i think even 1 ohm stable so I don't have those issues. My freaky little tiny alpine amp is so pimptastically strong compared to the enormous orion I had growing up and it doesn't heat up at all. They've come a long way.

Not sure what kind of truck it is but it could be like my 540i is. The head unit in a 540i with DSP package actually sends digital audio front to rear (amp in the rear) making the speaker wires unused (and not even present!). When I upgraded the stock I had to run all new speaker wires and because it was a 14 speaker system I had to install a crazy crossover setup to distribute it all since I was no longer using the factory 14 channel amp as well.

grimm 12-15-2011 11:34 AM

it's a 98 daktota, at most it has 4 speakers. i imagined it would be a simple swap.

It should be. I bet it is something so stupid simple too. It always is when I can't figure something out that should be a walk in the park.

Thanks Mark. I'm not going to bridge anything because it already makes my rear view mirror go psycho.

I agree, i can plug the stock unit it, and the radio works just fine and audio comes out, i disconnect it, plug in my harness, the new head unit powers on and looks to be working fine but no sound at all!!! (this is the second head unit and second harness) i tried playing with the balance on the headunit to see if one side was maxed. it's just retarded!!

jpalamar 12-15-2011 12:08 PM

Rosetta Stone => learn Spanish => apply at McDonalds.

piku 12-15-2011 02:20 PM

Ferrari's are actually very reliable assuming you follow the service interval that requires $6K+ engine removals every 15K miles. Heh.

HickRocket1258 12-15-2011 02:58 PM

I've been interested in Mercedes lately and their C-Class cars. I don't know why but I never thought I'd go down that route.

Yet another reason to hate my job. HR is telling me that I am only approved for 78 hours of PTO a year and 40 hours of sick. My employement contract and my HR handbook says that I'm entitled to 104 houts of PTO(13 days) and 40 sick. HR is telling me that I used all my sick time for the year which is right but they are telling me I used 111.5 hours of PTO time when I in fact used 47.5(confirmed by my supervisor after we reviewed my pay stubs and her records).

I questioned this on 11/30 and just now they got to it. I took 2 days off last week because I was sick as a dog and decided to take 1 of them uppaid because I was told I didn't have time and the other I've been working late to make up the time. They basically screwed me out of a day of pay which pisses me off. I don't deathly need the money, it would be great and all, I'm not mad out of principle then anything else.

2 weeks into this headache with no solution. I'm about to just take next week off and then the first few days of the new year too. See how screwed they are when I'm out while others that actually wanted the holiday are already off.

OMGz Turbo 12-15-2011 09:11 PM

YAYYYYY

yeah, i'm getting sick of my job here as well. no room for advancement. here's the scenrio going on here

i'm doing work above my paygrade. why? because the people who orignally did it retired, and i had to get trained and fill in. and due to the goverment planned cut backs, they won't promote me to the wage-grade level that the job normally asks for. Yet, other shops who's work had stopped coming in, started moving some of their people into my work shop, cause we have plenty of work. now, majority of these people are at a higher wage-grade then me. and also, with them moving into the shop, they fill the "requirments" of the needed wage-grades here, aka meaning no chance in hell period of promotion. and what sucks even more, i have to train this higher wage-grade's the job i just learned not even a week ago, and they still make $2.00-$5.00 more dollars and hour then i do.
