Looks and sounds great! love how you keep boosting these saturns!
|
Thanks guys. I'm addicted to boost, what can I say. I guess I can say that I have two cars that are different, boosted and running on full stand alones :p
So I took a long drive with it the other day to philly and back. On my way back I noticed the car was louder and yesterday it seemed like it sounded like **** as if I was running open header n/a. I also noticed today I wasn't making boost like before, it would take until after 4k to hit full boost, wtf mate. So I checked all the bolts around the manifold, made sure everything was tight. I spun the turbo, it's not super perfect, but it spins freely and has minimal up and down shaft play, no in and out. I start the car and it's not even trying to spin at idle and barely moves when I rev it lightly, again wtf mate. I get under the car to check the downpipe bolts and make sure they're tight (i know this doesn't effect whether or not the turbo is spinning, but it sounds like I have a leak so I check that out). Well it turns out the previous owner hacked off the internal wastegate rod, but left the flapper in the turbo and JB welded it so it would stay shut. Turns out the JB weld separated from the exhaust housing (no way dude!) and the wastegate flapper is opening up. At least it's a relatively easy fix, I was really worried that the bearings were done and I'd have to rebuild the turbo so at least that's a tad of a relief. |
just weld the flapper shut and remove your bov and external WG.

MY buddy down here in FL is thinking about turboing is 4 door but is reconsidering due to his failure of finding much for aftermarket, where do you get most of your stuff?

What software do you use to tune those?
We have HP Tuners for the LNF and LSJ |
Unfortunately with the older GM platform we have to do full standalones. I'm running a megasquirt 2 currently and tuning for fuel only. Tuning spark is unneeded for under about 230whp (of course there are gains to be had if that was added). If I was real lazy and didn't want to tune I could have kept the SAFC and just got some 30# injectors w/ 2 ohms(ish) resistance and ran 7psi on my setup.
|
Gotcha.
Actually must be nice to not have to F with the ECM to get what you want. |
Getting the tune just right is a little tricky, but getting it up and running isn't bad at all.
|
Is the cammo vinyl or what?
|
Duct tape lol.
Probably end up re-doing it at some point, but I wanted to see how it would look first to see if I like it. I indeed do like it. My buddy says he's going to legit paint the valve cover to tie everything together. I also covered the top of the washer reservoir which evened things out nicely. Need to do a picture update. |
That entire car in Digi Camo or Multi Cam would be so insanely cool
