Well, the biggest thing to remember about the list is that it is Clarkson's opinion. Also, Euro's, particularly Brits, have a very different opinion of what makes a great car versus most Americans. I didn't read the whole list, but I'm sure there were cars that were never even sold in the U.S. that are on there. For iconic, how about the Model T? That is the car that revolutionized the auto industry. Long before Ferdinand Porsche and Adolf Hitler dreamed up the Volkswagen, the Model T was bringing the car to the masses in America. I'm sure if this list was made by American's, the Vette and many muscle cars would be better represented, besides I thought we stopped caring about what the British think in 1776.

As for the C6 Z06, it is the consummate American sports car. Brash, loud, unrefined, but if you say that to it's face, it'll stomp you into the ground...kind of like most American citizens, lol. I just always laugh at the people who nit-pick the Vette for being unrefined or having a plasticky interior. While all of that is true (though GM is making leaps and bounds in interior design) the Vette is truly an every man's super car that is RELIABLE. Sure you can buy the GT2 or the F430, etc., but how many of them will happily crank over on a cold Michigan morning wothout a fuss? Just ask any Ferrari owner, most would say it was the worst car they've ever owned if it didn't have a prancing horse on the hood.

Ed you always have such a way with words.

Scapegoat 09-24-2007 12:50 PM

if this were an american list...it would have been Shelby Cobra... The top 20-30 would have been a list of american muscle cars in various trim levels

Im2Slow 09-24-2007 01:52 PM

the 300zx should be some where in the midrange, not 93

MPowerKai 09-24-2007 02:30 PM

I think Jeremy Clarkson said this but I'm not certain. "The new vette is like an STD, fun to get, terrible to live with"

"in a way you can think of the new Z06 as herpes. great fun catching it, but not so good to live with every day"

Raven18940 09-24-2007 02:37 PM

Yeah, he thinks the Z06 is is a great track car, but not such a good road car. He thinks the regular vette is just a good all round sports car.

I hope you don't mean the new GT500....that shouldn't be at the top of any list lol.

redwrxwagon02 09-24-2007 03:23 PM

who says this list is in any particular order too????

i mean cmon a golf in front of the GT40 no

obviously there is no certain order to this list

no best car ever

just a list of their top 100 cars

Buster 09-24-2007 03:50 PM

I think they meant the list to be as un biased as possible thats the only way you could put an old ass GTI near a GT40.

The Z06 is a great car and all. Ive driven plenty, but I wouldnt call it un refined. When you put it side by side with a fully loaded viper with a fully loaded Z06 you can really see what in fact is un refined. The corvette is ergonomic, the viper is very uncomfortable. The Z06 has a soft suspension, the Viper you could feel a nickle on the street and the dash is a dead give away. I know this is my own opinion but when driving either of them the Viper give you more of a feel that this car was built for one thing, and the Z06 tells me more that it was made so the wife would like it also... Comparitively speaking i would say the C5 Z06 is a much more driver oriented car then the C6 Z06.

I meant the Shelby Cobra wouldn't have been listed as an AC Cobra.

There is no shelby cobra mustang that I know of, at least not officially named that...

we've had the:
GT350 - 60's
GT500 - 60's
Mustang 2 Cobra - 70's
25 Anniversery GT350 - 80's
Mustang Cobra - 80's-'04ish?(terminators)
GT500 - 08

None of those are "Shelby Cobras" per se, but do have the Shelby name associated with them in one way, shape or form.

Oh yeah I did notice the AC Cobra on there. Which refer to these type...
http://faimg1.forum-auto.com/mesimag...0/AC_Cobra.jpg

Well they only made SVT Cobras from 93-04. Hence why in 2003 there was a 10th Anniversary Edition. Oh and the reference "terminator" was used in strict reference to ONLY the 03/04 cobras. Non of the previous years are known as terminators...

None of them are/were ever associated with Shelby. However, the GT500 IS a Shelby Cobra I would have to say. For the simple fact that many were built at this facilities and have Shelby slapped on the back of them and a Shelby...hmmm plate for lack of a better word on some.

well the gt40 is the old one...not the new one the new is just the GT so they are both old

DropTopChevy 09-24-2007 06:49 PM

Some of these cars may have been awesome for their time but putting them all on the same list is like comparing apples to oranges. :bigeek: I'm not much of a fan of the list.

92rps13 09-25-2007 07:21 PM

wow a E-type Jaguar made number 1? my dad has one......heres a pic of his

Exactly. I like Top Gear but you can’t take this list seriously at all. No other automobile journal/magazine/show would put the Jag at the top of a list spanning 100 cars and ahead of the Ferrari F40.

Here’s something a little better: EVO Magazine’s 100 issue featuring 10 greatest driver‘s cars (via on line poll.)

In no particular order:

Bugatti Veyron
Pagani Zonda C12S
Porsche 997 GT3
Lancia Integrale
McLaren F1
Skyline R34 GT-R
Integra Type-R
Honda NSX-R
Ferrari F40
Porsche 911 2.7 RS

and since opinions are a lot like assholes...

this list is obviously baised due to it being an EVO magazine, so it is biased towards the import crowd. You do the same poll in Mustang magazine you're gonna be getting Shelby's, Roush's, vettes, cameros, gto's, etc.

Arguing over these lists is as pointless as it gets. Opinions are opinions. And not fact based like "fastest car" "lowest ride height"

tjf 09-26-2007 10:47 AM

this guys list sucks theres no civic or eclipse, but then again these lists these people write usually contain cars that a normal person would never even see in their lifetime let alone be able to afford

So you're saying the Supra had a greater impact on automobilia than the Skyline? Really? So that's why it's still in production, right?

Remember, there are always more dynamics to these things than you can imagine. Most is personal opinion..but think about it..a car that set benchmark after benchmark in racing, handling, performance (N Ring especially)...versus a car that was discontinued?
