Spinny spin spin. Honestly.... This crank appears to be fine. Machine shop will give me verdict this week.

CleanNeon98 11-17-2014 10:32 AM

Wow! Is that both bearing halves on the crank in the pic? I can tell the piece on top is but not the bottom

Sorry to hear about your misfortune OP

Nope, thats the spun bearing. It actually got under the other bearing half, which was fine otherwise and came right off when rod was removed. It didnt dig into the rod, or crank at all, so well see what the verdict from the machine shop is next week. If crank is ****ed, new longblock.

If crank is fine.... ehhhh, Im pricing together some shenanigans to see if its viable.

CleanNeon98 11-17-2014 07:51 PM

That's good news at least. Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a used crank? With how those bearings look, I wouldn't put it back together without replacing the rings and giving it a very good cleaning even if the crank is OK. You moved quite a bit of metal. I been there, but my crank actually got ruined too. A used one at the time cost me only $150 shipped and $40 for micropolish.

Oh man, this **** just got pricey. Needs rods and pistons for sure since Ill be overboring and you never replace just one rod.

I COULD go out and play the 1J lottery at $1,500 a pop and hope its good, or bite the bullet and build this thing. Crank is good tolerance-wise, but a full magnaflux, and full refinish (can't just refinish one bearing, need to refinish ALL of them since I will have to oversize a touch) will be like $350 by itself. 1J cranks are unicorns and prob will run me OVER $400 shipped from NZ/AU/JP.

Merry Christmas to me I guess, built 1J here I come? Thank god I have a motovicity account.

rocknrace03 12-06-2014 10:13 AM

that really sucks, do people ever sell "running" 1j's on forums that you could buy from a part out or something? or an importer that would let you pull the pan and head before purchase?

Renegade_ 01-16-2015 03:33 PM

Picking up new block today.

Should run tomorrow. If not, and you hear about a bulldozer plowing into a JDM importers front door in Montreal...

Well, you know....
