After all, the boys out there in the desert of Iraq etc. have sand blowing around, I hope their rifles don't malfunction. Some reviews I read about the russian steel case ammo make it seem like its unusable, but everyone online has an opinion. I am however coming from an AK which I still have which I know can be thrown in dirt and mud and fired immediately after no problems.

They clean and lube their rifles alot. Lube is key.

Under 29 cents a round, 15 bucks for shipping.

Thanks for the link.

What do you guys think is worse about the cheap ammo?
a. the steel casing and ejection/dirt issues
b. barrel wear due to bi-metal jacket

What is FireClean? I assume some kind of cleaner?

Tanner's doesn't do that. They get their shipments in during the week, then they put it all out for sale on Saturday. Obviously they limit purchase amounts of some of the ammo, but thats just to prevent the first person in line to buy all of the .22 when theyre never going to shoot it. Hands down the best place to buy guns & ammo imo. Check out their facebook page to see what ammo they put out for sale Sat mornings

Fireclean is a CLP that prevents carbon build-up. I know a couple of friends who have used fireclean on their guns and have put thousands of rounds through them without any major cleaning. just disassemble, wipe, and reassemble. I just used it on my glock 34 and put 400 rounds through it with the suppressor and had no issues even though it was gunked to all hell. I had feeding issues with my guns over the winter with the sub-zero temps, so I can't wait to see if it performs in the cold as they state it does.

Local to me I can get a 1000rd case of PMC 223 55gr for 335+tax which comes up to par with online prices.

A friend and I split a 1000rd case of CBC 5.56x45 it was $345 shipped from Palmetto State Armory. I don't know why I was so insistent on 5.56 considering I haven't shot that NOR .223 but I thought it would make it more fun with a slightly punchier round. CBC is made in Brazil and is a part of the Magtech and Sellier&Bellot family. Brass case FMJ. Basically paid the same as .223 is locally.

After doing more research I found a few things my rifle doesn't have. I am a bit disappointed because i expected the works from a Colt rifle but I guess for $595 I still walked out of there like a champ.

It looks like the second carrier from the top and as I understand, having the unshrouded pin and cut rear are both not really "good" things. I am pretty sure that my carrier is a colt one (stamped C) and my actual bolt is scribed CMP

I doubt these things will cause major problems but I figured a rifle that's for "government and military use only" would have the better parts. Am I just being anal over this?

I'll take some pictures of some areas of concern (wear) and post later. It does have the "M4" style feed cuts.

You can replace the BCG and bolt for not a ton of money.

CleanNeon98 06-21-2014 11:28 AM

Can you recommend a few nice full-weight "M16" style carriers with a shrouded firing pin?

And couldn't I technically re-use my bolt as well and just change the carrier, or does it make sense to just get it all together? I'm gonna shoot it with what it's got tomorrow, but from what I've seen the 6721 usually comes with a full-weight carrier so mine has been replaced at some point.

bought my first rifle today. A post WW2 Savage model 4C in 22lr. it has seen better days, but for 70$ i can't complain. Only issue it has is having to keep light pressure on the magazine to allow the ammo to align with the barrel when closing the bolt. any easy fixes for this? not really a huge issue, but just a tad annoying after a 100 rounds.

edit. magazine locks in tightly with bolt removed, seems as though the bolt is whats keeping it from fully locking in. hmmmmm
