hey guys/gals been out of town for a while and got back last night, car wouldn't start. YAY! how common is a starter misalignment? i was parked up the hill of my driveway and i think the starter gear slide back no longer aligning it self. I tried to reverse roll start my car but m driveway isn't very long, but as i was hanging half in the street and half on the sidewalk (a more level plane) i was able to start it up. I then parked it in the street and it started up just fine. just wondering if the starter (which was replaced over the summer) is bad or this is just a fluke?

with the freezing cold weather i wouldn't be surprised if a little water froze in there and the gear slipped.

Nick I say go out and party hard because it sounds like your last weekend of freedom.

try tapping on the starter with a stick where the cable from the battery attaches to the starter.

Weird. Never had or seen anything like that before.

no. i was listening to cartalk last week and a caller had the same exact issue as you. they told him to tap on the starter before they tried replacing anything. apparrently by tapping on it it will help the gear go back to normal position.

no clue? before i left i moved my car from one spot on the driveway(flat) to another spot so i could change the oil of my fiance's car. The next day(the day i was flying out) it would start, sounded like it was trying to turn over, but much louder. I didn't have time to deal with it then. I come back and did the above stated things and now it's starting up normally. It's not throwing any codes?

i could try and re-load the map.

Ummm, all my weekends are getting filled with details or traveling. Since this is the only real weekend that I have a choice in what I do, im trying to decide the best way to spend it.

lololol.. went to get gas and drop off parts to a mechanic. light was red and i was gonna pull out of the parking lot but this lady pulled up so i couldn't get out. i was muttering expletives under my breath and then some girl clearly not paying attention rear ended her.

I never get that satisfaction when I'm around terrible drivers on the road.

That's why I don't really rush to get anywhere anymore. 5 miles over is good enough.
