i need to do my taxes online tonight... does anyone know the deal about buying a new car? i hear there is a tax break for it... at least thats what was implied by i think an H&R block commercial.

i'm really hoping for a few grand this year... every cent i get is going into savings for a trip to korea in the spring

angdefeo 02-02-2010 12:32 PM

Jon, i sent you a follow up question. If you have some time let me know what you think.

i am not 100% sure but i think that the taxes paid to buy the new car are reduction in income. the software you use should be able to walk you through it.

for example, we are all given a straight amount that we can deduct from our income that reduces what we made and in turn how much we pay or owe in taxes. the incentive to buy a new car this past year will be treated the same way. the amount will be a straight reduction and not just a deduction.

in layman's terms? straight reduction vs deduction? :)

its not a % of the sales tax like when you itemize your taxes that reduces your income but the full amount paid reduces your income 100%.

i am not super clear on that but when i researched it a while back that was how i understood it.

i also sent you PM that might do a better job at explainint it.

windows saves all the content from the previous version in a folder haha. i went through the trouble of backing up some things on the primary drive to the secondary... then wondering why the previously available 70ish gigs was about 10 gigs after upgrading to W7

12k a year lease would be around a grand a month... something tells me that is wrong haha

Angelo

E46 M3 existed from 01-06, My favorite body style and it had a near 50/50 weight balance. The new M3 is the E90(Sedan), E92 (Coupe) and E93 (Hardtop Vert)

No awd M3 has ever been made, all RWD in either a straight 6 or a V8 (current body)

Just get TurboTax. There is a section in there specifically devoted to finding deductions, buying a new car during the year is on that list.

Both of those taste way too sugary to me.

Gold Peak is where it's at, even though it actually has more sugar.

Meesh, whats the mileage allowance on your lease?

I ended up getting 12,000/year for 3 years. It couldve been 15k but I was cheap when I was planning the lease. Plus I figure a few years from now I might not be doing as much driving as I am now.

Yea, I was just too impatient to borrow an external harddrive. i figured the CD would work. Idk what i did wrong being that i never normally use CDs to back things up. I popped the disk in, dragged the files over and got an error along the lines of, "Cannot locate alias for selected file." i placed my head on the desk and said to myself, "I knew this would happen."
