I have to give a HUGE thanks to Kevin and dragonfly for their help today. Everything went fairly smoothly even though we're not finished. We got the trans dropped today, old clutch out, and new clutch in. I wouldnt have been able to do it without their help so thank you guys so much. Round 2 tomorrow to get things bolted back up.

I'm in some trouble. The drivers side axle/nut got the threads all mangled up and now the nut wont go on. I either need a new axle or a tap and dye set big enough to rethread them so I can drive the car. Also need to figure out how to get the ball joint nuts on without spinning the stud. HELP.
How bad are the threads? If they are not to bad you can use a small file and carefully correct them. I have done that many times without problems. As for balls joint, there are two ways. You can either use a big clamp to get pressure on the ball joint, or you put your weight on while turning the nut.
i think the threads are too far gone at this point from trying to correct them that there is no hope without a tap/dye. I figured i only needed pressure on the ball joint to get it to work but we were focused on other things after a while
Well you could force the nut on if it comes down to that, but you would have to break it off next time you're getting the axle out and replace the axle.
I tried forcing the nut on, but 1.) it turned the rotor (but i guess i could do it when the car is on the ground?) and 2.) it would just spin right off

Sorry about the Flywheel, miss communication on my part.
The threads on the end of axle I had a machine shop re thread, after bashing the hell out of them, to remove them from the hub. Its a biggens die like m16-18x 1.25 if I had to guess. Take a floor jack place it under the lower control arm, jack up enough so it applies a good amount of pressure on the upper control arm to steering knuckle ball joint. It won't spin and you should be able to tighten it up. |

2. Have an impact gun? Push on it and go full force and hope it doesn't strip it off completely. :-p |
If the threads aren't completely gone you may be able to get away with using the old nut and working it on. But very slowly and use alot of lube. Put the wheel on leave the center cap off, spin the nut on till if get tight, spin another 90 degrees and work it back off, than spin 180 and work it off, than 360 spin it back off.. till it goes all the way.
^^ Forgot about that. Take a file, and cut notches inside the nut. Then use lots of grease and slowly thread the nut on. This is a redneck/lazy man repair but works.
Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. Hopefully a buddy of mine has the right size to get that bad boy re-threaded or he can help me with your suggestions. that damn nut is the only thing keeping the car from full assembly
At least you don't have any extra nuts and bolts laying around.
ha im pretty sure everything got used! Whether they're in the right place or not is a different story
If it doesn't fall apart then you're good.
Let me know if you need to locate the correct tap/die. I may have something that will work, although it's a bit of a drive for me. Whatever, I'm unemployed.
