Jon, I reluctantly agree to a point. It's hard to see people in need and ignore them, besides trying to help out the people medically, i don't think we can afford to give them financial support. If we did give them money wouldn't it really be China's money anyway?

ive never been a supporter of policing the world or supporting all of its failing/failed nations. **** that. our country is full of awful **** that we dont spend enough cash on... meanwhile we're sinking billions into foreign affairs.

Apparently, "complicated" wasn't the right word. I understand and appreciate how Alton Brown breaks things down scientifically and to show the fundamentals of cooking to help his viewers understand processes, why, how-to... all that jazz. What I was getting at is that he sometimes just goes too far. There's a known statement in cooking and baking that basically explains that less ingredients is more. Sometimes, I just want a recipe that's easy to make, with few ingredients and huge flavor. When I have time, sure, throw a big, huge, complicated, long-list-of-ingredients recipe at me and I'll knock it out no problem. I like cooking and baking. No need to tell me to get in the kitchen... I'd probably already be in there.

The earthquake is immensely sad but any efforts the US would even attempt to give are like using a bucket to empty out an ocean. Our country is in it deep enough.

whats the point of sending money to other nations, when you can't even provide good body armor for our own troops?

and i go towards the military, cause;

1. former military, and got tired of being told i can't repair the gear i got due to lack of funds

2. other people who are still seving are hurting. i mean, i've seen some military members going into welfare lines. WTF

And I know Ken, but a good portion of the recipes online from him (and other Food Network chefs) are pretty long. Mostly because they can't fit them into shows, i'm sure. Either way, i wasn't trying to debate Alton Brown. Dudes a good cook with a good message and good recipes. His French Onion Soup recipe, which is where this all started, has a lot of ingredients that I dont think are necessary.
