yeah you're right, I keep forgetting about that. If you can't tell, I don't use them. lol. I guess they'd still be the least expensive though compared to most private ranges.

Easton Fish and Game is really nice and very reasonably priced at $30 per year after a $30 initiation fee, but still it's only 100 yds. I think that's the case with most anywhere close to this area.

Ontelaunee has out to 300yds they are like 30 bucks a yr. there are a bunch of gun clubs in my area with 100 yd. Guthsville is nice 60 to start 30 there after nice little club. Most clubs around here are pretty easy to join as long as your polite and dont act up. Only ones that are hard to join are the ones with private land to hunt on then you usually need to know a member personally before they even look at you.

I need to find a outdoor range that allows full auto use. New Holland is a very nice range, the president is a asshole tho. other then that its a great range to shoot at.

cmr076 10-06-2012 01:54 PM

steves range does i think, there was a guy there with some other class 3 stuff last time we went..its ridge valley rod and gun.

99corvette 10-06-2012 02:10 PM

Just checked out their website. Didn't see any info on there about full auto use. Sucks because I pretty much have to drive 3 hours to my hunting property or have a friend that has property to shoot on.

Well i took DC2.2GSR advice and took the drive down to targetmasters. i have to say he was right that was the best gun shop/gun range i have ever been to. they were super professional. i took down my Ruger P95dc and shot about 100 rounds through that working on getting a better grouping from 7-10 yards along with my grip. i was squeezing the grips and trigger instead of locking my wrists and an easy pull on the trigger. my groupings did get tighter but the sights need to be adjusted a bit. i think next time i plan on taking tools to try to zero it in a little.

While i was there i rented 5 different subs compacts and compacts. First i started out with the Ruger LC9 and the Smith and Wesson M&P 9C. I only shot about 2 mags through the LC9 and i wasnt impressed and didnt like it. Grips felt weird and it wanted to kick really hard. The S&W felt really really good the sights were way off i was shooting center mass and it wasnt even on the outline of the person. i was on the outer edge of the target. i shot again to see if it was just me. Same thing happened. so i held about the same distance away from center on the opposite side and bam center mass one shot after another. felt better then my own ruger right now. I shot about 40 rounds through that gun and liked it the more i shot it. i took those guns back and rented the Springfield XDM-9, Ruger SR9, and the mighty Glock 19. i didnt opt for the 26 because it was just to uncomfortable when i held it side by side with the 19. The Ruger SR9 jammed after every other shot so i only shot about 4 rounds through it. didnt feel right anyway. The Glock shot really really well, but the size is just to big to carry for me. I shot the XDM last and it felt really really good. had a decent cluster at 7-10 yards

So now im stuck in a hard place. I need to decide if i want the XDM or the M&P. i do like that the XDM comes with the range mag, 5 different back straps, and the holster. just need to look at what i find a better deal on first i guess. sorry for writing so much lol

Sadly, you can't gauge reliability using a rental pistol. Even at a nicer place like targetmaster, rest assured that those rentals are rarely or never cleaned and offer a poor example of what ownership would be like.

I have plenty of examples but too lazy to type today.

hammtheman 10-07-2012 11:47 AM

i understand that i just couldnt put more rounds through it cause i have to constantly clear the jam. i just couldnt focus

When I said that FCO's rentals were never cleaned, I should have said that all rentals at all shops are well used and not usually cleaned, but FCO's guns make other shops' rentals look like they're brand new. lol. I should have also mentioned that the few times I've shot rental guns I've always broken them down and quickly wiped and re-oiled them before shooting. It only takes a few seconds to break down the gun, another few to wipe critical areas and then just drip some oil onto the barrel and the contact points on the slide and the gun will be clean enough to be reliable.

My advice would be to go again and this time narrow it down and maybe only shoot the M&P and the XD next to each other. Add one more different gun as another comparison if you want, but really focus on the two that you liked before. If you have concerns about the sights, let them know at the counter and see if they'll drift the rear sight a little for you and get it shooting straight.

hammtheman 10-07-2012 12:16 PM

yeah i def wanna go back and shoot the two but it was so packed last night at like 8pm all the lanes were full and the store had the counters swamped. it gave me a better idea what im looking for. i really did dig the the xdm i felt better in my hand for sure. just havent read up on the springfield at all. which im doing now lol

hammtheman 10-10-2012 06:24 PM

just bought this today for 375. its basically brand new. had under 500 rounds put through it. hope to go to the public range this weekend and put some ammo through it.

^ Nice!

I just went with my friend to buy that M&P Shield that I sent you the link to. I have to say that even though I love my 40C, after handling it tonight for quite a while I'm 100% sold on the Shield for carry, especially in the summer with just a t-shirt on. I've been tossing around some ideas for a while now and I think I'm going to pick up the next one I see come up for sale.

Bizee 10-11-2012 08:06 AM

big difference in the size between the m&p vs the xd .40? worth making the swap if you already have a xd? havent seen a m&p in person, by spec it just looks lighter..

DC2.2GSR 10-11-2012 10:11 AM

I've never seen an XDS in person, but I just found this via Google.. it compares it side by side with a Shield:http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/...on-photos.html
