Teachers salaries are based on the 9 month school year in most districts. (my wife's a h.s. teacher) Usually they have the option of having a lump sum payment at the end of the school year, or evenly distributed over the summer. Word of caution... don't EVER say to a teacher.... "yeah, but you get summers off!!" :mrgreen: They hate that! They more than make up for it with the amount of work they do during the school year.

Not only do they get summers off they get every weekend off too. "Just like most jobs" except they do get the entire summer off too. Don't preach what Not to say to a teacher as my property taxes go through the roof. :mad:

Well, i'm not going to hi-jack Troll's thread, and I'd be happy to argue it further in PM's, but don't talk about what you don't know / understand. Property taxes are not only made up of school taxes. Also, school taxes go up each year for the same reason all taxes go up...to pay for standard operation cost increases, and to pay for cost of living increases in salaries.
Teachers work days do NOT stop at 2:30 when the bell rings. My wife is at school from 7am to 3:30 every day... then she spends the next 2 hours returning parent phone calls and filling out the rediculous amounts of paperwork generated by 50% of kids now-a-days being incorrectly classified as "learning disabled". Then she comes home and spends 4 more hours grading and preparing the next days lessons. Thats 14.5 hours a day. So get your facts straight next time.

401k matched 50% up to 6% of my pay

all the typical holidays

i honestly dont know how many sick days i get because i rarely use them, same with vacations and optionals.. im not in a position to go anywhere so i just take the extra weeks pay plus whatever optionals are left.

a *nice* christmas dinner

christmas to new years off / paid (yes the whole week)

random paid half days(and even more days where half of its a party)

no dress code(yes i consider that a benefit)

this laptop(which you guys know im fed up with :lol:, but at least it was free)

remote access to the office for snowy days(see above)

lots of travel opps. with minimal work involved(ex. last year went to orlando from thursday night to tuesday morning, worked 7 hours total on the trip,.. EVERYTHING paid for including entertainment)

and the most important benefit,.. i love my job(as in i enjoy my day to day activities there aside from the benefits)

most people are incredibly ignorant as to the amount of work teachers actually do. Not only do they work crazy hours, but they also are one of the most NOTORIOUSLY underpaid professions (depending on district/type of school). In some areas around me, first year teachers start in the low 20's before taxes. While all the 'sales professionals' are playing with their expense accounts and surfing the net all day to buy new wheels for their 7 series BMW, the teachers are grading 150 spelling tests on their lunch break. I'm not a teacher, but I have a lot of family members and friends who are and I have nothing but respect for them and what they do.

I think the only thing i get at my current job is 1 week paid vacation after a year. But we are closed the week between christmas an new years, but its not paid.

At my old job i had full medical and dental. A company match 401K up to 15% of my pay. Since I was there for 5 years, i got 2 weeks paid vacation, and 5 sick days per year. Not exactly a benefit, but i used to take one of the comany cars or trucks home all the time. It kept some miles off mine, as far as they knew i was just driving it home and thats it.:devil:
