With the new headlights on, the car looks so much better. I'll post a photo after work.

It does highlight the visual need for wheel spacers and to lower the car. I also really want to get VW Rotary wheels too.

Leaning towards lowering springs and the Ecs tuning flush spacer kit. I wish the car had DCC, because they'd be perfect for springs but the factory shocks are pretty good and can take a mild lowering. VWR springs are the ticket.

Matched up with the rear sway, the car should be DD friendly and pick up a little in the turns. Factory+ build.

Im trying to decide between the S or the SE. I kind of really just want the sunroof

SE is the best trim level for value. Push button start and keyless entry too.

After more research from current owners located in areas with bad roads, I decided to order the VWR lowering springs for the GTI. After listening to locals around DC, NYC and PA, it seems that they'll retain comfort and not give me the issues that lowering springs did on my STi many years back. These springs combined with the rear swaybar should hopefully give my daily driver a little more push in the tush so that it's more fun to drive around turns.

will update after everything is tied down. this is a seriously fun car to drive daily.

if they dont work out i would recommend the bilstein b14 as a great entry level coilover kit. my friend has them and love them. i personally ordered the pss10 for my s

Thank you! The B14 kit is supposedly being updated soon. Both the B14 and the PSS10 are being considered if the springs slam me into the bump stops too much or ride choppy.

I had the B12 on my M3 and loved it's balance but it wasn't the softest suspension (strictly talking comfort levels) compared to stock. Definitely going Bilstein if this setup doesn't retain comfort. Just trying to find a cheap solution that won't kill the cars comfort for my gf since we take my car 99% of the time.

I can get pretty good pricing on bilstein if you ever want it

I'll let you know how the pss10 ride since they will be delivered tomorrow

Thank you, please do. I've ridden on the PSS10's in a 996 Carrera and they were very similar to the factory suspension on my 997 Carrera...just more buttoned down without being harsh.

If you have a connection at Bilstein, ask them why the 997.1 can only get the old PSS9 instead of the PSS10 like a 996 can. :) Pet peeve of mine...newer car, but older suspension options.

For the B14's on the GTI, I've seen it go for $950 shipped through a vendor on the forums. The PSS10's can be had for $1606 shipped through another vendor.

PM me if there's a better deal than that please.

Springs should get here Wednesday with a Friday install tentatively booked. From all the reviews I can find on them, it seems like the ride comfort is retained, but the car's lowered and there's a tiny bit of handling improvement.

I have a feeling that out of all these reviews, my car will be special and I'll feel bump stops and mismatched spring rates to the shock valving. VWR claims the springs rates are matched to the factory valving...we'll see how that works at higher speed cornering. My bet is the shocks give up. (Gotta keep telling myself its just the DD) :)

That's about right for the b14, I can get the pss10 to you for about 1400 shipped

It's just your DD, Dave :) I completely understand the tinkering, but still, haha

Perfect. I'll let you know. The springs may be what I want out of the car.

I'm in it probably 98% of the time :)

Running the 911 as a daily has higher running costs and i decided to save the miles on it for more fun drives. During Memorial Day weekend, we took it up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah :)

The GTI is so limited by traction, I'm leery of putting a tune on it without tying the chassis down a little bit first.

Foolinaround 06-09-2016 09:57 PM

I'm getting rid of the evo and picking up a gti thanks to this thread.

 You'll love it. All the fun without the drawbacks. (other than traction out of the hole or apex). :)

theres no way i could go from an evo and not get a Golf R! close to the same awd capabilities with much more refinement!

It's literally the same price as a new evo the only one in the area is 40k listed. Need something less expensive to own overall since I'm leaving active duty soon and going back to school.
