So I've been waiting an unheard of amount of time for the previous owner to aquire a new title. So long that I stopped working on it and stuffed it in my friends barn with a cover on it. Well today is the day, it finally came!
Progress to follow. |
Ok I guess its time for a update.
The car is finally all the road, I daily drove it this entire past week. I also did the Si grill mod and recharged the a/c, which blows very cold. It's been a VERY VERY long time since I've owned a car with working a/c, like 7 years lol. The day I rolled her out of my friends barn the alternator decided to lock up, which ended up needing to be replaced. I did a new alternator belt and a/c belt at the same time. I'm also bidding on a OEM cd player to replace my crappy sounding tape deck, yes I'm keeping the OEM radio so a thief won't want to steal my bling bling headunit. I also repainted my door moldings, mud flaps, and side skirts. I plan to paint the wiper arms and cowl next. As for the rear wiper, I removed the arm for now and plan to remove the wiper motor and get a OEM plug to delete it. Next on my list to order is r-97-4 Roma Red paint from Paintscratch.com to touch up my bumpers for now. It's currently getting about 34.5 mpg, which isn't bad but I'm hoping with a new fuel filter and plugs to get up around 36. I have some exterior goodies on the way, but I'll keep that quiet until I install them and decide that it looks good. But before I install them I hope to add some security layers to the car, already sent a PM to a fellow TSTer for some pointers. Here's a quick list of what I have done to the car so far: Claybar Compound Polish Wax Restored the headlights Repainted door moldings Repainted mud flaps Shaved DX emblem "Si" grill mod Degreased engine bay Removed and cleaned entire interior Installed Armrest Timing belt Water Pump Belt Tensioner Coolant Oil Change Rear Trailing Arm bushings New Alternator Alternator belt A/c Belt Engine air filter Rain-x Latitude wiper blades I Think that's it, all I can remember at least. Here are some pics: Replacing the RTA bushings: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...504_151356.jpg Old http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...504_151413.jpg New http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...504_151517.jpg Her first fill up! You can see the "Si" modded grill here, but she needs a wash: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...611_164459.jpg And freshly washed as of yesterday: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...618_180832.jpg Lastly, current mileage: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...618_181933.jpg |
You always do everything right the first time, very clean, seems to be turning into a reliable DD, and something more perhaps?
|
Filled up last night. Some quick math showed 36.4 mpg! Still yet to do the plugs/fuel filter.
|
bastard i only get 26-30

Yeah that's what my cavalier got. I just grandma the sh!t out of the civic, ac on windows up. I really want to do a hx swap and wire it to run lean burn mode. My goal is to get better dollar per mile than my friends diesel passat.

gimmie......
|
My boosted ls eg hatch got 41 highway on the way out to Pittsburgh a couple times :)
|
a/c yields better mpg than windows down? **** don't let my girl find that out
you should fab some aluminum air dams for the front bumper/car's underside if mpg's is what you want. remove some drag |
Wow... first time seeing this. I picked up the same exact car in May, and I love the thing to death. its a 97 RR Civic Hatch DX, 140k miles, 5 speed, no rust, faded paint, scratched bumpers, but everything else is very clean and totally stock. I fixed up a few things maintenance wise but it was in good shape overall. Have an EX cluster installed to add the tachometer, has an old head unit and an Infinity Basslink. All maintenance has been done on the car except I don't know when the fuel filter was last changed so I do want to do that. I currently average 36 mpg on mostly highway miles cruising around 75 mph but I did hit 42 mpg road tripping between Philly and Georgia last week.
Oh I also have a roof rack to carry bikes and kayaks around... funny to see it with 2 kayaks on the roof that are nearly as long as the entire car :). The car is great though, I didn't know I'd love it so much as a daily. Amazing gas mileage, cheap to maintain, should be reliable, its comfortable and quiet, and it fits an amazing amount of crap in the back when I fold the seats down, which I take advantage of often. So anyway, I'm blabbing, but its cool to see someone else on here with the same car. I've been talking about trying to polish up the paint on mine cause its pretty faded... the bumpers are the worst and I'm not too sure those will come back, but hopefully the rest of the car will. Ok well I'll follow along your progress for sure... I didn't make a journal for mine since there's not going to be much going on with it long term. edit: link to photo if you want to check mine out... wish I had the other photo on FB with the longer kayak on too: http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5256510_n.jpg |

The paint looks totally different, nice job bringing it back to life. Also, I dig the si grille.

Car looks great man. Makes me want to actually start doing something to my daily, like maybe washing it for the second time EVER since I've owned it (since like Jan) :-p |

I'll update this thread soon. I've done a few things, just been lazy to post it up.

Man I never update my journals LOL.
The trans in the car was making noise when I first got it, obvious input shaft bearing growl. In the past week or so it started getting really loud and started knocking as well, joy. SovXietday seriously hooked me up with a trans (thanks again man) and even lent a hand with the swap. Luckily I picked up a new throw out bearing too, because mine was cooked. Between the two of us it went really quick. It feels like a whole new car with how quiet the trans is now. No more growling/knocking at idle or whining downshifts. Sorry no pics. That is all. |
Ok so I'm finally going to update this for the few of you who follow my builds.
Going back to last summer lol. The fuel pump started making some insane noises that I've never heard come from a pump before so I replaced it with a high flow pump because it was cheaper than oem. No pics of that. I also added a replica ctr front and replica oem fog lights. Sadly the lip got ripped off in the snow storm we got last october. Here's a picture anyway: http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...IMAG0056-1.jpg Early this year I got 4 tires and did an alignment. I also took advantage of this time to repaint the wheels. Its some gm color I forget the name. It looks bronze in some light and slightly silver in other light. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...IAIMAG0348.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...IAIMAG0349.jpg Sadly the rust on my driver side 1/4 panel was getting to be more like rot, so I cut it out. I know its ugly for now, but its better than letting it rust more and more. But I have plans to get it fixed soon. Cut it out and grinded it down to bare metal and painted it with black paint http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...IAIMAG0427.jpg I also stitched the back bumper drifto style http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...IAIMAG0344.jpg |
Ok so I guess this is more of a fun update.
http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...IAIMAG0463.jpg Picked up a new motor/trans for dirt cheap, its suppose to be low mileage but who knows. Even if I don't use it I can resell for profit, which I hope I don't do lol. Anyway plans for it already are the following: Stock replacement clutch OEM flywheel resurfaced Complete gasket kit New timing belt - it came with a new greddy belt but I'm going to sell that and get a oem Water pump Replace valve cover - i think its ugly shaved Stock exhaust Stock intake I'm considering doing the head gasket since I already have a set of arp head studs laying around that I was trying to sell. Only thing making me not want to do that is if I pop the motor open I know I'm going to end up doing a hone and new rings and bearings. I'm trying to keep this fairly cheap and just focus on my integra. |
wow man looks great, glad to see a fellow Honda owner that takes pride in their whip
