I only did it as preventive maintainance when putting the LSD in... it's kinda stupid not to replace known problem parts if the tranny is already apart... and it's more stupid not to send the gearset out for cryo...

russiankid 10-31-2009 12:43 AM

The main issue with the trans I will most likely put it in are the synchro's. But if you know how to drive a manual than you're fine.

Roto 10-31-2009 12:54 AM

Never hurts to replace the synchros... also the shaft bearings... though I dunno about RWD tranny's all that much since hte diff isn't in it.

Put new 6000K HIDs in the Supra low beams and 3000K HIDs in the (edit!) fogs last week which required drilling out the back of the housings slightly, then it rained a lot. Both foglights had a lot of moisture inside so today I pulled the headlights... and at that point I realized there was at least a pint of water inside one of the headlights... might as well have had a goldfish swimming in it. Guess I'm going to have to find a way to seal them up better since water apparently finds its way back there.
I pulled all the bulbs so there are a few small openings in the back now and have a fan blowing on them to try and dry them out sooner rather than later.

Hmm... thats a bit much for the whatever thread but doesn't seem substantial enough to bump my member journal with.

In other 'whatever' news... I'm leaving for japan in 50 hours. I should go pack.

Roto 10-31-2009 01:17 AM

Dude, I'm so envious... I've been around the world, but Japan is one of those places I haven't ventured out to yet. There and Australia which sounds awesome... you going on business or pleasure?

TROLL 10-31-2009 01:23 AM

Well if you ever want to hit up Ukraine for that kind of fun let me know... I go there on annual basis, since fi dolla gets you A LOT there

edit: and I don't mean the sucka sucka fun... I mean photography and the other stuff. You've got Chornobyl and Pripyat for pictures that you can't take anywhere else, and than there's some other post soviet things that can be interesting.

TROLL 10-31-2009 01:46 AM

I'm always down to travel more, love it more than anything :)

I'm the same... in the spring is the best time to go there. Just gotta pick the right timing if you actually want to get a legal tour of the closed zone around Chornobyl. That tour might be the most expensive part of going there, but other than that there's so much to see...

Oakes 10-31-2009 04:10 AM

Ive been to 3/4 of this planet, and I can travel still for the next 5 years and still see more.

No. The driveshaft I got has the same part numbers for the two trans types this car had, but apparently the output flange is different between the two. I can sell the current trans for a good bit of money, and the money I get from it will cover another transmission to fit the driveshaft along with a new clutch. This way I can do a complete swap with just about everything new. Downside is that I would be taking a very strong transmission to a transmission that is good but if you drive like an idiot it won't last. However, I don't drive like an idiot so it will be fine and I know how to drive a manual.

I also don't want to buy another driveshaft because I don't have the money to buy another and buy the rest of the swap parts.

Lemme guess you got the one with the cv joint at the end and you need the one with the ujoint... So you need the trans and driveshaft in order to complete the swap? I guess the auto trans is longer or something?

I heard you'll get your camera stolen there if you're not careful ;)

If you're not careful your camera could be stolen in Philly...what's your point? Anywhere in the world if you're not careful **** can happen. I almost got run over by a cab in London cause I was looking for cars the other way down the road...

My one buddy literally saved my life a while ago, I went to step out and he yanked me back, before I could even say WTF!? A bus just BLASTS by and the mirror still came close to me, I shat mental bricks.

DPancoast 10-31-2009 10:01 AM

damn... that would have sucked lol

Oakes 10-31-2009 10:08 AM

Yeah, **** was like straight out of a movie, and by a while ago, I'm talkin like a year ago haha.

Well, it is a gloomy Saturday but I had a great night, finally rested up and got a bright red Ferrari in the garage to brighten the day

Roto 10-31-2009 10:12 AM

I pulled another allnighter at work...tired as hell
