my definition of atheist is one that does not believe in a greater power. An agnostic is one that questions the existence of such.

I don't think its there, but if I'm ever proven wrong I won't let pride get in the way of admitting I was.

Personally, I'm fine with anyones religion as long as its not being pushed on me. I believe in being good for myself and my friends and family, not to get into heaven or stay out of hell.

That stuff just isn't for me, but I'm ok with you if it is.

I had a love/hate relationship with religion until I read a book and realized that the person who wrote, 1700 years my senior, was literally myself in a mirror.

Oh...I am truthful too...too truthful to the point of being rude (blunt) some of the times.

It can't be proven or disproven, and that's the beauty of the mystery. Pure faith.

Bluntness is needed sometimes. That's why I hate car meets.

finally a religion discussion where people don't get insane on each other.
is nice.

Wow, thats so true. I never even thought of it that way.

Ahh....stuff to ponder instead of letting my mind fade away at work :)

I think it comes off rude sometimes though...which is obviously not the way I, (at least), usually intend it to be.

i would rather someone be completely honest with me, than think horrible things behind my back.

at least then i have the chance to learn, and maybe advance my brain a little.

My faith lies in science, which like religion, is primarily theory. But its something tangible to me.

Thats not to say religion, or faith, isn't tangible to others. I just fail to grasp it.

My pet hobby is Catholic theology; I absolutely adore it. I've been writing my own "Profession" or whatever you want to call it for quite a while. I find it helps to speak to someone...God is great b/c you can keep going, and going, and going. I like to write, because I hate talking. When you write you don't need to worry about stuttering or the tone of your voice or if you're tapping your foot. It's emotion, words, and thought.

yeah, i am the same way.

i prefer the tangible, than to be told to fear an idea, supposedly all loving and forgiving.

edit: i wouldn't say i'm atheist, or even completely agnostic. i just agree more with the polytheistic beliefs of the middle east.

John Cardinal Newman once said that conscience is the definitive "cure" for atheism.

Conscience is an example of something which we cultivate- but there is a seed there from the get go. Part of it is a priori.

I use science as an example of God. The structure of the world, the idea of structure....brilliant, completely brilliant. The most elaborate watch ever made (reference to the deism beliefs of the Founding Fathers).

Your saying that you dont believe in religion, right? Because its only theories and yet your saying science is theories as well but thats tangible to you.

Interesting how different people can grasp things when others cant and vice versa.

I'm going to be completely blunt with you...

When other people aren't being dicks or aren't trying to shove their opinion or views down my throat, I can provide very good conversations. It just so happens that in most threads someone has either started the thread off in the wrong tone or it degrades shortly before I get there. Though I tend to put it over the line as I'm pretty good at taking another persons tone and amplifying it back at them ;)

where'smyturbo? 11-26-2007 03:32 PM

like it has been said, opinions are like assholes and so on...

I can drop an apple and watch it fall to the floor. But I don't see the "magic" in child birth, or the "angel" that saved someone in a car accident.

I grasp what I can see and touch. Others can grasp that which cannot be seen or touched.
