Evidently only if you're doing it commercially or making a profit on it. Yesterday I re-profiled my Draco's hammer and polished all the contact points in the trigger group. Tomorrow after work I'll do the same to my coworker's Norinco AK. That doesn't make me a gunsmith and I'm not doing anything commercially, just tinkering and helping out a friend. I got a few PMs over there from people who are FFLs and who explained it to me.

Brian - the slidefire stock isn't an auto in any way/shape/form. The ATF's definitions and logic are this: one round per trigger pull = semi-auto. multiple rounds per trigger pull = auto = restricted by the NFA = tax stamp required. As far as the ATF is concerned, a slidefire or similar stock is no different than any other stock.

(and btw, just to get the technicalities straight for future reference, there's no such thing as a class 3 license in terms of individuals owning NFA items. Individuals just pay the tax and own the items. Dealers who work with NFA Title II firearms must have a Class 3 SOT license. Basically they have to do more paperwork and pay the special occupational tax that allows them to deal with NFA items.)

lol like usual, while I'm typing here and switching back to work on the shop's website and facebook there are like 10 more posts. you guys are fast. lol

SvicksTc 02-02-2012 12:28 AM

^^well in that case ill help you out with the polish then...good to know mike cuz I did my buddies barrel a little while back and after seeing your question on the forums I almost **** a brick lol

And anyone interested in galls level 2a body armor with level 3a tramua plates, I might be putting it up for sale soon and getting a different vest...

Its less than a year old and worn twice at the range...

DC2.2GSR 02-02-2012 12:32 AM

yeah messing with the ATF isn't exactly what I'd consider "desirable". haha I wanted to make sure of it before accepting any work. We've already had so many requests for Cerakote, etc. and also hydrographics and we've had to say "sorry, not yet." It sucks.

Munky 02-02-2012 12:38 AM

Be careful polishing that ramp. Previous owner did it to mine and royally ****ed it up. I have to have it fixed eventually or buy a new one

Also I said it before but I'm gonna say it again so maybe this time you'll listen. THROW THOSE F*CKING KIMBER MAGS IN THE DAMN TRASH!!! Anyone that has a Kimber will tell you that the factory mags are absolute garbage. Go out and pick up some Chip Mc's, Wilson's or even some factory Colt/Springfield's. Stay clear of Kimpro's too!!!

Well I new NFA was part of something, but I went with class 3 instead lol.

So what all is involved with getting that NFA stamp? Is it only some fee and an additional background check?

I want a M249 SAW.. lol

I knew I heard that from somewhere... haha

I'm going to start my search for the mags tomorrow then. One thing I like about the factory mags though is that they are flush with the bottom of the grip. I'm assuming that I can get aftermarket mags that are the same way?

Not doubting you at all. Just saying most of the UCII's don't need it. He needs to get new mags first before he does anything to the physical gun and I bet he see's a dramatic difference.

Well in that case, maybe we can take a look at the XDm as well. Never had any issues with it, but if I can make it smoother, I'm def willing to try it.

SvicksTc 02-02-2012 12:45 AM

I actually should of asked does any body else have body armor?

I edited my one post to say I might be selling my galls level 2a with level 3a tramua plates that is less than a year old and worn twice at the range..

Looking for a different vest...call me paranoid, but you never know and after seeing some douche tarts at the range. I figured it was a good idea

And munky I agree whole heartly..I did mine for looks ;) you can try any of my mags brian 3 factory springfields and my chip mccormick

The xd barrel will be easy, I say we polish the whole thing

You can get the other ones to be flush as well. Most you just remove the baseplate. That's what I did with the Wilson I carry in mine daily. Most of the time tho I just rock the 10 rounder. :supz:

How long is the stamp good for?

I dunno about the whole thing... if it wasn't the bi-tone, I would be up for it, but I'm just not sure how bright silver on flat silver would look.

And awesome, I'd like to try out those mags. Would def help with my purchase decision.

But if the UCII is only built for a 7 rounder, wouldn't the 10 stick out pretty far?

Alright, sounds good.

But if the gun already feeds smoothly, what good will polishing the ramp do?

If its feeding fine, there is really no need, just remove and slight bur, scratches, etc from rounds going through..

That might not be a bad idea... it's got a couple thousand rounds through it by this point.
