Side note - anyone interested in meeting up for the Oaks gun show, maybe shooting after?

Ya spent a little more than 150 ha, but i definitely got a good deal on NIB moonglow considering how limited these are and the prices that people are selling them for...

It was just one of those things I had to have and would justify spending that kind of money on a knife i probably wont carry, lol..

Ill be going to the Oakes show early Saturday, my girls so into guns now she is actually taking off work to come with me, instead of me twisting her arm to come with me to a gun show LOL!!!:supz::supz:

We went to the last Oakes show and she liked that one too..

this oaks show won't be as big as the last one, but will still be a really good show.

Went to the range this evening to test out the Mossberg 500 and took the girl along to get some more trigger time behind her bodyguard .380 (which she is doing quite good) Handles all the loading/chambering/etc now at the range...

Shooting:

I am super impressed with this gun, it is extremely accurate and actually not bad to shoot, not using the laser, because i didnt want her to form a crutch with the laser, and she actually shot better without it, and so did I haha

She has always shot good, but really glad to see her handling the guns all by herself now..

Her shooting with the body was all tight groups in the center around the bullseye and on the bullseye I dont have a good picture of a target because her best target I went to town with the G26 after and blew out the center ;)

The homemade target stand was tits too

I like it a lot, I had one failure to extract though out of 50 rounds, might have to polish the chamber a bit and check out the extractor spring, no biggie...

Probably will pick up a shoulder stock at the Oakes Gun Show!

Had some problems with the Kimber at the range tonight..

First 30 or so rounds shot fine, but then I started to have feed issues. A few times with almost a full mag (6 out of 7, range limit), after firing with several rounds left in the gun, the slide stayed locked. From what I could see, the round was still firmly seated in the magazine and there was nothing else that could have blocked it from cycling.

A couple mags later and things were fine again, until this time the slide didn't cycle forward all the way and got hung up on the round as it was trying to chamber it. That only happened once.

A few mags after that, I had the slide locked back after finishing the mag and after hitting the mag release, the slide only went three quarters of the way into battery. Looked inside and nothing appeared to be catching it, so I just hit the back of the slide to finish the cycle.

Since this is my every day carry gun, I am very worried about it's reliability at after seeing this tonight.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

SvicksTc 02-01-2012 09:14 PM

Brain, how's your grip on the gun? I'm not sure if limp wristing could cause the slide to lock back on a partial mag? But I guess it could be a possibility, also what kind of mags are you using..

In my 1911 my factory mags work fine, however, I carry chip mcCormicks...never had any issues with my 1911 so I'm not sure what could be the deal, possible mag follower issue and maybe a nice polish to your feed ramp...or you could sell it to me :p

What most 1911 guys are going to say is mags if you're using factory mags, but like I said I don't have issue with mine..

In bold: rightly so. I wouldn't carry it until you get the issues straightened out. As for the actual problem, I have no idea. Sorry :o

Could very well be limp wristing... I noticed my shot placement was off today and the gun was bouncing around on me. I'll get another box of ammo this weekend and head back to the range to try again.

Could be the factory mags acting up too. I'll start looking into replacements. I'm also up for the idea of polishing the feed ramp.

How should I go about polishing the ramp? And I always have the thumbs forward, I probably just wasn't holding it firmly enough.

And I'm either coming home this weekend or next weekend, so let's meet up and head to the range at some point if you're free.

When I polish barrels I start with like 180 depending then 320 then 2000 grit for the feed ramp id just start with like 320 then hit it with 2000 it will come up nice get edge of the ramp too

We could head to my range when you're home

I have NO clue what that means. haha

And I'm assuming that a dremel would be used for this? I don't own one of those... although I should...

No need for a dremel...I would do it for you but when modifying someone else firearm as I've learned from mikes inquire you need a ffl to do it?

~Brian~ 02-01-2012 11:17 PM

Well, when we go shooting, just give me a step by step and I'll take it from there

~Brian~ 02-01-2012 11:40 PM

Would I still need a class three license for a mod like this?

Forgot to put the link in here.. haha

320 and 2000 refer to the "grit" of sandpaper. obviously start with the lower number (rougher) paper, then finish with the smoother. If you add water while using the 2000 it won't clog nearly as fast and will actually remove material faster.

I can't imagine the gun would take a rates of fire like that over long periods of time though.
