I want to build an SBR or at least pick up a AR pistol and possibly SBR down the road...

do it man, i built mine for around 1k give or take, including the tax stamp(not including the acog) i just bought good parts when good deals came too me. the only part i paid some what retail for was the trigger, and it was worth it. i do plan on buying a dedicated 9mm upper down the road.

Went to the range today and had some serious problems with the Kimber.. from what I can see, it was mostly feeding issues. Used to just be one mag, but now apparently it's both. Full or almost full stacks.. sometimes I'd rack the slide and it wouldn't cycle the whole way and the round would get stuck halfway in or I'd fire once then the slide would stay locked with a full mag in it.

Think it is just the crappy factory mags or is there something else I need to worry about?

*Edit- I spoke to the guy at the range I've known for a while now and he said it could either be the fact that the springs in the mags are so new they need to be broken in or that I was using the 230 grain rounds and the gun didn't like them. Thoughts?

SvicksTc 12-21-2011 12:57 AM

Im not too familiar with the Kimber frame, but can try to offer some advice..

1. Is the barrel a fully supported ramped barrel (im guessing it is)?
2. Where you using FMJ or JHP?
3. Where the barrel ramp meets the frame inside the gun is there a decent lip that gets created between the frame and the barrel ramp? (might need to sand or polish that down to be more flush)

I had some feeding issues with my one mag from the factory, but not the other...I did some investigating and saw a place for the JHP to get a little snagged on between the frame and the ramp of the barrel (could have been the follower on the mag, but)...I polished this area and the ramp of the barrel and I dont have issues with either of the factory mags now with JHP

Idk why the gun wouldnt like the 230 grain?

Im sure Munky, Dave, and others can chime in better on...Im still young padawan with the 1911

~Brian~ 12-21-2011 01:16 AM

Not sure, it's not in front of me and I can't access it at this moment.
I was using FMJ
Again, not sure, I need to look at closely tomorrow.

I keep hearing that the factory mags are junk... I hope that's all it is..

Yes factory mags are very suspect. What kimber do you have ? UCII have been know to be rather tight from the factory if new. I would try a couple things.

1. Load the magazine to capacity and let them sit for a bit

2. Run the gun pretty wet and try to put a couple hundred rounds thru it (if its new)

3. Have someone else shoot it. Not saying your limp wristing it but just to rule out your grip.

4. borrow some other mags

5. Sale it to me for cheap and by a glock

Yep, it's an UCII with less than 1,000 rounds through it.

1. Already did... both have been full since the day I got it back in October.

2. It's not super wet, but I did break it down and oil/grease everything pretty liberally but without making a mess

3. I could be... I have a paper that explains why shots go where and a few of my rounds ended up in that area ( I'll post a pic of it soon)

4. I think I'm going to invest in different mags soon (very soon)

5. Yeah right... lmao

Anyone have any feedback on Romanian WASR-10 "AK47"?

I'm tossing between that or maybe a 1960s Polish with a milled and dimpled reciever, a bit more money, but seems like a more solid gun.

i would go with the milled polish, i have seen a few in person, they seem to be pretty well built guns. i really dont care for the wasr-10, seen a few with some problems. i remember when they were 200 bucks. if you really want a nice ak, go with a arsenal.

HaveBlue83 12-22-2011 10:36 AM

polishhhhhh

Milled > Stamped, dimpled > Wasr single stack civilian market poopies.

we already talked alex!! lol
