How?

Power flow is no anti theft:

Battery 12volts to fusible link number 6 30amp fuse in engine compartment fuse box to a white 3mm wire>
to ignition switch pin number 1 on harness connector, during cranking Pin 5 supplies power out of the ignition switch 2mm black/red wire>
To the starter relay(behind the radio), into pin number 4 of the starter relay>
When the starter relay (the relay coil is also energized by the 2mm black/red wire) is grounded via the clutch switch the green/black wire terminal 1 out of the starter relay than power can continue out of the relay from pin 4 out of pin 3 to complete the circuit to the Starter Solenoid wire the Black/Yellow wire that travels all the way to starter.

The ECU never comes into play, the circuit does supply power to the ECU while cranking but is than switched to a different circuit once the key is placed into run and not crank, but the ECU is not responsible for supplying any of the power to simply crank the engine over, keep the engine running, yes, make it turn over no.

The only other problem I see, is if you have anti-theft, than you have the theft alarm relay, and the ETACS controls unit witch is above the fuse panel drivers side, The anti-theft alarm relay sits under the dash panel lower looks to be up high below the steering wheel, 4 relay's on the same junction block together, its the lower right one.

unplug your ecu and try to start the car.

Looking right now at the schematic, the car will in fact crank with the ECU not hooked up, but obviously will no start due to the lack of signals from the crank or cam.

It's a direct shot from the start position into the starter relay which connects to the starter and the clutch pedal switch. There are few components that keep the car from starting. The ignition switch, starter relay, clutch pedal switch, the starter itself, or bad ground/hot wire. I'd post the schematic but you can't save the images from mitchell to repost.

ok ok you owned me on this one :(

97TurboDSM 01-26-2009 11:16 PM

all of the above are confirmed good minus the ignition switch so i will be swapping one in tomorrow to see if that seals the deal.

Not trying to own. Just teach.

Good luck getting her started tomorrow.

97TurboDSM 01-27-2009 01:53 AM

thanks jim. and thank to everyone else that lent their suggestions

assault187 01-27-2009 02:40 AM

before you swap the ignition and have two seperate keys (one for ignition and one for doors) Why dont you throw 12v directly to the starter wire at the ignition (I mentioned the wire color earlier) and see if it starts. If it does just pick up a starter push button and wire it up. If you want, I'll write up a schematic for you

97TurboDSM 01-27-2009 12:31 PM

im not swapping the ignition, just the switch inside the bad boy.

Where did you get wiring schematics from? I would really like to get a complete set.

97TurboDSM 01-27-2009 12:45 PM

hey slacker quit using my thread for your benefit lol

JimH 01-27-2009 01:27 PM

Through Goodyear (where I work) I have access to Mitchell Online and All Data. Rather expensive program and access that unfortunately I cannot give away but I am more then willing to help where I can.

JimH 01-27-2009 07:20 PM

Looking at your thread title you found it was the starter relay that took a crap?

97TurboDSM 01-27-2009 09:18 PM

yeap you are right

97TurboDSM 03-09-2009 03:58 PM

alright so since my update and posts after that got deleted, i'll post again. updated mods, evo3 exhaust manifold, evo560cc injectors, punishment o2 housing dumped, and dsmlink v2. i am going to link to my idle logs if someone wouldnt mind checking things out for me as a start. thanks.
