And yes, I fully agree that when I actually have my own firearm to carry, it will be a last effort to defend myself. My first is my 13 years of assorted martial arts experience in the physical sense. Other than that I am very good at acting calm under pressure/confrontation. Despite what people on this site may say.

But regardless. I've been going to the range ALOT with my friend and I love it. We go 2-3 times a week and have been learning a lot together with his couple of hand guns he has.

If you're interested in doing a search, there are tons of threads over on PAFOA about carrying on the job either with permission from the employer or without permission. There are debates about the moral and legal issues. Basically it goes like this:

Private property rights trump the majority of your personal rights while on the private property. The 2A may guarantee your right to 'bear arms', but the property owner has the right to set conditions of occupation/use of his property, and that outweighs your 2A rights in that situation.

Carrying at work is something that you have to seriously weigh the options of. You can either obey a corporate no-weapons policy and leave yourself vulnerable (job safety option) or you can disobey the policy and carry anyway and retain the ability to defend yourself (personal safety option). You should consider your need for that particular job and weigh that against your desire to carry. What if you get 'found out'? Do you lose your job and default on a mortgage or car payment or stop being able to provide for your family? Maybe that job isn't that important and you have a skill set that allows you to find another job easily? Also, consider what you think of the idea that if a situation arises, and you're obeying a corporate policy by not carrying, what happens when you get attacked and maybe killed? Another scenario is that you use your gun in self defense and you get fired anyway, but you (and maybe others) are alive because of your actions? (link to article)

Here's my general philosophy on it...

Concealed means concealed. It's better to be judged by twelve than to be carried by six. *insert other pro-carry cliche here*.

It's my personal belief that under almost every circumstance, it's far better to carry and conceal it well, even if it's against company policy, than to risk getting killed by some piece of trash. That's just me though. It's a personal choice.

The head of the distribution center is a down to earth guy as well so I'll probably sit in his office and talk to him about it. I feel it can't hurt since I'm not carrying yet anyway. I can understand both sides of the coin in general.

Part of me sees that yeah, someone (employee) could get pissed and shoot up the place, so it "avoids" that. But the other part of me asks, what if a non/ex employee or someone random decides to come in shooting? It also asks ok you don't want it in the building, I can see that, but in my personal vehicle? That's silly. But it goes back to part one of my post.

There are other coworkers that have their ltcf and carry outside of work full time and we've talked about it. I'm just soaking in as much as I can for my everyday life to decide what I need to do. I'd rather obey and continue to provide for my daughter and keep the job, than to risk losing it. BUT I won't not make my opinion known in a professional manor to my superiors just to see what they say you know?

Yes I know, "but if you get hurt or killed because you weren't carrying at work, then you can't provide for your daughter"... well I hate to say it like this but I have life insurance and her college fund aside. And I have no personal debt that would be left to my family to pay back. All of my loans are covered, that if I die, they are covered.

I dunno. Once I actually talk to someone that matters within my job, I will be able to decide more easily. But as of right now I have no idea how my superiors feel on the subject.

Turns out I'll probably be getting a Glock 19 Gen 3 instead of the 23 Gen 4. Mainly because of the cost to shoot, my dad reloads 9mm. After reading though this thread it seems like everyone is satisfied with their G19s and Glocks in general.

I cant say enough good things about my 3rd gen g19...

Need some help deciding, The S.O. says I can get another pistol, but its got to be something she can handle, my S&W MP R8 .357 is a little to much for her, she can maybe get 2 rounds until her arms and shoulders are sore (she's 130lbs) The other pistols I have are 22's that for me arent fun anymore, so I'm lookign for something a little bigger in caliber, something in a .38 or.45 even 9mm would do if its the right gun. I always like 1911 models but i'm not picky, I was look at the Walther Pk380, a 9mm that i was considering was the Beretta PX4 Storm, I got to shoot one a few weeks ago and was really impressed, also one of my favorites is the Remington 1911 R1. Feel free to throw your own suggestions in their, I have $1000 limit so be reasonable.

Let me also clarify that this is not going to be a CC gun, I use my Taurus M85 38 special for that, this will be a range shooter/home protection gun.

i would go with a 9mm if its mainly going to be a range gun. go with a m&p, glock or even a hk usp. with a 1000 dollar limit you will have plenty of cash left over for ammo.

If you want a nice gun that you both will enjoy shooting, you should look into some of the HK's, more specifically, the P30. I've shot this gun many times and I am currently saving so that I can get my own. A word of advice, get version 3 (V3). it has an external hammer, so it will be easier to switch from single to double action.

I would also say to buy a 9mm or a .380 auto but with a larger frame than the Walter PPK. I have fired the PPK a few times and i have nothing good to say about it. It it such a small frame that it jumps wildly when fired.

Go to a gun shop and have her try some compact 9mm's. She should be able to get a good feel about weight and comfort. The kick from a 9mm in that size is not to much. You might also want to consider a beretta cheetah. Those are pretty tame to shot. If you go the compact route, try a Beretta 92, Sig, Glock 19, or S&W M&P.

I wanted to get a smaller 380 for carry as well. Carrying a compact 9mm around all of the time kinda get's annoying depending on what you are wearing!
What do you guys recommend for a .380 or smaller 9mm??
