Range report?

went to donleys saturday, all i can say is wow, i think if me and my dad put our collection together we would have more guns than that place. i felt awkward going in there, i had nothing to look at, i just walked in, did a 15 second scan and left.

that's how I felt when I went to a small shop near me about a year ago. It's at the guy's house and we went on a sunday. The guy met us in his driveway and was really nice. he opened up his basement/shop for us and we walked in, looked at his basically antique gun selection and I just looked at him and said sorry, i'm one of those 'black gun' guys and we left. what else do i do? a collection of like 15 old rifles and shotguns and about 10 revolvers isn't exactly what I call a gun shop. the newest thing he had was a colt new agent 1911. i just have no interest in looking at beat up lever-action rifles and bolt action shotguns. lol. i was polite and thanked him, but there was just nothing there.

Well first weekend out with it was not that great...I Mean the gun shoots great, but was having tons of issues with failure to extracts/stove pipes...

Talking with Dave and expeirmenting i narrowed it down to the 30 rd CProdcuts magazines causing all the issues..

When i chamber one round and drop the magazine the shell ejects 100% of the time, but as soon as i try to use the magazines it fails to eject like 98% of the time causing either a stove pipe or a doublestack...

I ordered some new magazines, and been doing some reading online to see what people have done to modify these magazines to feed properly. It seems to be the feed lips are what is making the casing not be able to eject and get caught up on...

I am going to take some time and work at one to see if i can dremel some of those lips away...

Other than that the gun shoots great!!

Its cool, from all the reading and looking and your help its definitely i got hit with GEN 1 CProducts 30rd magazines giving me all the issues... The feed lips have these curls in them that cause friction, as well as there is to much material in the front where the mag catch is...

Dave you have the voodoo drag bag right? It was real nice whatever you have, looking into something like that...

Reds82 06-15-2011 03:04 AM

Ive had mag issues on guns before any they suck my 308 with magpul mags the nose of the bullets actually hit below the feed ramp jam up pretty bad

That seems to be one of the problems with the mags, as well as, the side feed ramp lips causing to much friction....the fix seems to dremel some of the extra metal way from these gen1 dies

SvicksTc 06-15-2011 06:01 PM

Well I ordered a 10rd magazine straight from DPMS and still have yet to receieve and word on processing this...

Ive been doing reading on the magazine issue and I also found a couple "FrakenMags" on gunbroker and i ordered 2 of those (these seem to be pretty reliable and really the only mag that seems to work)

I am going to try and modify one of my Cproducts mags the way people suggest online with a dremel for the hell of it...

Nothing too exciting for most but I bought a new BUG. Smith & Wesson Bodyguard w/ built in Laser. Took it directly into the range and put a few rounds through it. Very happy with my purchase.

Awesome pick up, looks like it shoots pretty decent. How is the recoil? Those things are pretty small, around 5 inches right? I was looking at one the other day....

If you dont mind me asking, how much did that set you back?

Munky 06-17-2011 11:57 PM

Recoils a lil snappy at first compared to my EDC Glock 19 but you get used to it quickly. It's really no bigger than my hand. Even with the mag extension I still can't get my pinky on it. But for what it is...a back up gun/belly gun...it fits the bill just perfectly. I don't even notice it in my pocket. Feels like another cell phone.

As for price...more than you can afford pal........Smith & Wesson!!!

I have a P220 .45ACP myself and love it. After several thousand rounds I never had a jam, failure to fire, or failure to feed even after shooting several hundred rounds in a rapid fire in short period of time.

Using mass produced 230 grain ball ammo I can shoot smaller groups with the Sig 220 than I can with the multi thousand dollar custom 1911's I've shot before. Looking at the various professional reviews, they have achieved similar results, consistent sub 2" groups at 25 yards with mass produced ammo and 10,000 rounds rapid fire without an issue. SIG makes some amazing handguns.

So i dropped my AR off at Donely's Today to have the chamber polished and worked, should have her back in time to shoot next weekend...

I was at the range today, shooting steel targets with the G19, first time and super schweeeettt...

I received some goodies the other day

I ordered 2 20 round FrakenMags 7.62x39, do not make anymore, and were a pretty penny (from the reading ive done they are, what seems to be the most reliable mag for the 7.62 in AR)

Shoulda bought a SW MP, live and learn...

Munky 06-18-2011 02:17 PM

Should have not bought a 7.62 AR sounds more like it.
