Subsequently, I'm talking like I have a retainer in my mouth - The retainer would have saved me from problems like this since it would've kept the cross-bite that I had fixed by wearing braces for 2 years in line. FML.

I've done that before too. I'm not sure what happened to you because I didn't read it, but I accidentally bit my gum before which caused it to swell and then kept rebiting it for a day or so. So annoying. I also have a crossbite to fix. I'm going to ask my dentist about braces.... Boo. Invisalign is totally expensive, almost $5K for my cross bite.

Erik 08-03-2009 01:56 PM

not to sound dick-ish, but how do you bite your gum?

Getting my wisdom teeth out was the most fun I never want to have again. But trust me, if they all come in, you're better off. The ones that fully erupt heal up FAST. The impacted ones took over a week for me to feel even remotely normal.

hahahahahahhahaa huge difference man. in my opinion, biting your gum is the equivalent to biting your ear.

All 4 of mine are impacted... none are bothering me. I went in for a consultation last week. The lowers are basically pointed right at the root of my 2nd molar which isn't uncommon. The doc showed me a situation where someone didn't get theirs removed and over time the impacted wisdom tooth rubs into the root of the molar until it wears away the rear half of the tooth, and causes a whole other slew of problems. He said that wouldn't necessarily happen to me, but it could.
I'm getting mine taken out soon... mostly because its covered by my current health insurance 100% and that could change at any time so I don't want to miss the opportunity here. Its gonna suck so I'm not looking forward to it though. The doc said that by day 3 I should start feeling normal again... is that not the case?
