stuff like that makes me furious. no offense, I hate philly, the place is full of garbage and **** heads. I don't like to go there anymore at all, i'd rather go twice the distance to NYC to hang out then 30 mins to philly. And yea that quote is 100% true, these tools ruin the city name for everyone. But let's face it, if they don't ruin it, some other **** head will.

+1...yup...although there were the riots. Every place has their problem, every single one. It's just a matter of how well it's hidden...in a larger place like NYC, hiding is a lot easier.

I've never really fought before. I don't understand why people feel the need to mess each other up. And I think that any kind of violent crime like that should be punished by mad prison time. Even if the result is just a broken nose. That's just me though. There are plenty of ways of getting your aggression out without ****ing someone up.

Yeah I completely hate that BS when you can't just fight on your own. One time when I used to hang out in West Chester, this one ghetto kid a couple years younger than me was speeding through a little parking lot, then was speeding on the road. I yelled I hope you crash asshole. He then proceeds to come back. His little friends and little brother was like you better get out of here, he will kick your ass yada yada. Anyways I was like whatever I'll get in my car. Well he comes back and blocks me in. I get out, I'm like chill dude, he comes up to me, then punches me in the head, and his brother decided to hold me while he hits me again. I had a few inches on him and most likely would of decked him but it wasn't worth it when I only had a couple friends with me to their 15 or so. Plus you never know who they know and all that. Either way no one knows how to fight for themselves anymore, others always have to get involved.

Oh he also tried to punch my window and break it I assume, but he failed.

The sandwiches and food culture is rich in originality. NYC has incredible food, but less "authentic" or "original" type dishes that they are known for (certain hot dogs and delis come to mind). I think NYC has better restaurants (Le Bernardin is the best in America), but the food culture in Philly is absolutely incredible.

Haha aint that the truth. I'm not a fighting type. Never have gotten in a real fight besides that scuffle, but my friend's say the day I get seriously pissed off is the day that I really beat the crap out of someone.

When I was a lot younger I moved to Philly from the Lancaster area. 10 years ago Philly really was a better place. Hell I lived in West Philly for years and only had one attempt to break into my car (and that was just door handle pull, those happen everywhere). Years later I moved back into the Fairmount/Art Museum area which is supposed to be "really nice" and my car left after just 8 months of living there with scratches all over it. I was sitting outside smoking a cigarette one day and some dude just came by and ripped mirrors off cars and threw them at the ground. Wtf is that? Even the nice areas are soooo ghetto. **** that.

EDIT: Oh and the constant people rummaging through the garbage and throwing it everywhere. ****ing disgusting. I've done my share of trash diving for goodies but I at least had the decency to leave it as clean as it was when I got there. Course I'm not some nasty mother****er going through bags, I was just looking for computer and stereo ****.

It's hilarious, I move closer and closer to the place I wanted to escape so bad (Lancaster County).

Fighting in West Chester is a joke, half the people in this town are a joke in my complete honesty. It's a rich town, as you know, and there is no complications to the living situation out here, with the exception of road construction lol. Whenever I find a "ghetto" kid in this town, I find my entertainment for the night. Half the "hard" kids around here, fight in groups and use something to their advantage against one or two kids and feel big about themselves. I remember calling this one kid out running his mouth about beating up this guy, I already knew the actual story though. I told him to fight me, he said "when" and I told him right now, I thought he was gonna **** himself. Told him he wasn't too tough without his little posse, and then everyone that just heard the story caught on and asked him questions and he felt like the bitch he is.

Regardless, there are no "gangsters" in this town, just rich kids that don't have the brains to spend their times and parents money better. I'm from South Philly, also grew up in the 69th street section of Upper Darby, those of you that know me, know I'm the furthest thing from "gangstaaaa" Yet I've been through harder ****, lost quite a few close friends, been in more fights than 3/4 of the "gangstas" I've run into. However, I couldn't give less of a **** that people know what ive been through, capable of, and so on.

eh that's kind of a stretch. they say you haven't really made it as a chef/restaurant until you have a restaurant in NYC... I think NYC food culture is far more diverse than philly. but i'm sure thats a discussion of it's own. I wish philly's rep was improving, but from what i can see it's going in the wrong direction. and it's because of the citizens.

Well like I said, I think NYC has better restaurants. However, you can separate local gastronomy from restaurants. And this place is starting to flourish...reference Ripert (Le Bernardins) opening a restaurant, and I believe Jose Andres (former apprentice to the best chef in the world, Ferran Adria of el Bulli, as well as an owner of 7 restaurants here in DC) also has a restaurant. It's growing, and steadily. We're getting a lot of rep in food/gastro blogs, and it's becoming a neat place for a variety of foods we were never known for.

People also forget that Le Bec Fins was ranked as one of the best in the country, and then Perrier broke out and made it more casual, losing the 5th star.

But as I said, NYC > Philly in sheer number of quality restaurants. But the culture here is growing and has grown in a much more distinct fashion.

Food is my primary reason for travel into Philly

Cheesesteaks? Aside from the touristy ones, the best steak steak is either Chink's or John's Roast Pork IMO.

Roast beef = Nick's.

Pork = I still think it's either John's RP or Tony Luke...

Le Bec Fins is still prolly the best overall rest., even without the 5th star. Although Morimoto is neat. 10 Arts is Ripert's restaurant.

Also, the mom and pop places as well as the more en vogue, smaller places in S. Philly, N. Liberties, etc., are becoming a lot more daring than before.

Philly used to have a restaurant called San Marzano around 15th and walnut I think. It was owned by Pizza Express which is big in London. They had only 3 restaurants out of London, one was Philly, one was Japan I think and one in Rome. It went out of business but man it was sooooooo good. I think I'd kill for their bruschetta again.

i only go to philly for cheesesteaks.

Every city has it's ****ty sections, but cultural areas like South St., Rittenhouse, Old City, Penns Landing, etc. are definitely great.

And i agree that the food is also boss.
