I approve of this x2

We the people need details

Just gonna be a basic head cam car. 130+ traps is the goal. Thinking about doing pistons now that I'm looking at them lol..

What do they normally make on stock displacement with H/C/I? 575?

That thing is going to be a blast!

15psi88 12-12-2017 10:03 AM

The numbers are all over the place.. I've seen a guy dyno 570 wheel, cam only through stock manifolds, with a smaller cam than I have. There is a number of cars with the same setup I have, over 600 wheel on 91 octane. Even though its a made up number and the points don't matter, I'll probably be a little upset if I don't do over 600. #braggingrights ya knowww

The heads are still out in Cali, and I decided to put rods and pistons in it since it's apart. Car is kind of at a stand still until I get some parts in. I did, get a new project for the time being though..
Introducing, the ugly ducking.

It's a washed up work truck, that needs a lot. The price was alright, and even though it needs a bunch of body work, it's not rusty.
Pulled the bed off quick to add some lowering shackles, cleaned up the frame and painted it

Started some body work. This was the worst of the damage and really stuck out over regular abuse you'd expect to see on a work truck.

I put some 20" wheels (and adapters) on with some new highway treads.. Tires are a lot taller than I pictured in my mind. I plan to lower it quite a bit more, so I may be tubbing the front.

digging the truck project!

PAdutch 02-21-2018 09:28 PM

That's a whole lot of porting/polishing. Seeing 5 ports weirds me out.

mckpat03 02-21-2018 11:20 PM

Danger to manifold??

15psi88 02-22-2018 09:16 AM

Only dangerous when I'm around it with a cutoff wheel

Got it pretty well roughed in last night. Probably will go up to 100 grit and call it a day.

PAdutch 02-22-2018 01:45 PM

Looks pretty darn good

15psi88 02-23-2018 10:16 AM

Well I thought I was done roughing it in but decided to go back for round two. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing more harm than good, but I guess we'll never know. It's nice to just put headphones in and trance out a while.

Mixed feelings about tonight's progress. I did end up getting rods/pistons, so tonight we pulled the short block apart and found some pretty nasty things. I'm very glad I did decide NOT to just stab a cam in it..

Moving forward, I'm not sure what to do yet. Obviously replace bearings, but I'm not sure where the trash came from that went through..

DocWalt 02-24-2018 11:34 PM

Sounds like it needs a trip or few through a hot tank... :(

PAdutch 02-26-2018 11:39 AM

Looks like that engine needs a good inspection and cleaning. If the journals (including cam journals) and cylinders look okay Id just rebuild it. If it has an oil cooler throw it in the garbage and get a new one. Its good you found it when you did.

After some deliberation, and reaching out to the PO we've found that the valve covers were sand blasted when they were painted blue.. The valve covers have been housing the abrasive the entire time I've been pounding on it. Sad, but optimistic that the problem is solved. I honed the block last night, and had some help getting the block washed and flushed with acetone, soap and warm water, while I.. polished my crank.

I ordered these billet fuel rails over 10 months ago, long story short I just received everything. I'm really happy with how the intake manifold is looking. Having a friend take it to get powder coated wrinkle black to match the valve covers tomorrow. A little apprehensive to have someone else do this, especially considering the time, and money I have invested. I'm trusting it comes back as good as it should.

PAdutch 02-26-2018 05:07 PM

At least you know what happened now. Make sure you take those baffles out of the valvecover.

DocWalt 02-26-2018 11:44 PM

^^ +eleventy million

Intake manifold looks awesome

Foolinaround 02-27-2018 10:16 PM

Same thing happened to my Mr2 engine. Sand blasted by P/O and it ended up taking out #3 bearing.

15psi88 03-15-2018 03:26 PM

My buddy picked up my intake manifold today and sent me some teasers.. It was too big to fit in my oven :(

15psi88 03-19-2018 11:27 AM

The crank is still at the machine shop, and I'm kind of out of things to do until I can start to check bearing clearance. Sooo I haven't done much really lol

I know rome wasn't built in a day but I hate downtime during a build. That's when you start tinkering with random **** because you don't know what else to do.

When the crate came I only took out one head to check it out. Never realizing the other head was damaged in shipping. It appears that it bounced up and was riding on top of the other head. Todd @ A&C is an absolute class act and I really can't complain about much. Things are being handled the way they should be. I just wish I would have seen it earlier when I had a bunch of down time. We found this damage the day I was intending on bolting them on and getting the engine back in the car. They're currently on their way back to the west coast to be fixed.

Foolinaround 04-12-2018 08:04 PM

Holy **** that is cheeks man. Glad that they're coming through for you!

TROLL 04-14-2018 09:36 AM

Car works pretty good! Base tune is pretty close. Drives pretty okay for the cam size. I took my bro for a ride and he was pretty certain it was faster than his Z06. We'll see how that plays out soon enough.

mckpat03 05-22-2018 09:11 AM

It sounds so good, and noticeably different. And it delivers power soooo much differently.
