I approve of this x2
We the people need details |
Just gonna be a basic head cam car. 130+ traps is the goal. Thinking about doing pistons now that I'm looking at them lol..

That thing is going to be a blast! |
The numbers are all over the place.. I've seen a guy dyno 570 wheel, cam only through stock manifolds, with a smaller cam than I have. There is a number of cars with the same setup I have, over 600 wheel on 91 octane. Even though its a made up number and the points don't matter, I'll probably be a little upset if I don't do over 600. #braggingrights ya knowww

The heads are still out in Cali, and I decided to put rods and pistons in it since it's apart. Car is kind of at a stand still until I get some parts in. I did, get a new project for the time being though..
Introducing, the ugly ducking. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4630/...af0028b2_c.jpgtruck https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4770/...425f2089_c.jpgtruck1.1 It's a washed up work truck, that needs a lot. The price was alright, and even though it needs a bunch of body work, it's not rusty. Pulled the bed off quick to add some lowering shackles, cleaned up the frame and painted it https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4617/...96d62405_o.jpgtruck1 https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4604/...0a8e71f2_o.jpgtruck2 https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4755/...b4563ff1_c.jpgtruck3 Started some body work. This was the worst of the damage and really stuck out over regular abuse you'd expect to see on a work truck. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4696/...560b69c4_c.jpgtruck5 I put some 20" wheels (and adapters) on with some new highway treads.. Tires are a lot taller than I pictured in my mind. I plan to lower it quite a bit more, so I may be tubbing the front. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4613/...78a4c5f9_c.jpgtruck6 |
digging the truck project!
|
That's a whole lot of porting/polishing. Seeing 5 ports weirds me out.
|
Danger to manifold??
|
Only dangerous when I'm around it with a cutoff wheel
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4654/...2971ddcb_c.jpgIMG_6929 https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4675/...90135cfc_c.jpgIMG_6928 Got it pretty well roughed in last night. Probably will go up to 100 grit and call it a day. |
Looks pretty darn good
|
Well I thought I was done roughing it in but decided to go back for round two. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing more harm than good, but I guess we'll never know. It's nice to just put headphones in and trance out a while.

mmmm pretty :)

Finally, ready for powdercoat.

I did end up getting rods/pistons, so tonight we pulled the short block apart and found some pretty nasty things. I'm very glad I did decide NOT to just stab a cam in it.. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4632/...c4cff2c5_o.jpg28381841_1607221059325762_1884690895_n https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4708/...dc671d8c_b.jpg28499945_1607258349322033_1286187013_o Moving forward, I'm not sure what to do yet. Obviously replace bearings, but I'm not sure where the trash came from that went through.. |
Sounds like it needs a trip or few through a hot tank... :(
|
Looks like that engine needs a good inspection and cleaning. If the journals (including cam journals) and cylinders look okay Id just rebuild it. If it has an oil cooler throw it in the garbage and get a new one. Its good you found it when you did.

After some deliberation, and reaching out to the PO we've found that the valve covers were sand blasted when they were painted blue.. The valve covers have been housing the abrasive the entire time I've been pounding on it. Sad, but optimistic that the problem is solved. I honed the block last night, and had some help getting the block washed and flushed with acetone, soap and warm water, while I.. polished my crank. I ordered these billet fuel rails over 10 months ago, long story short I just received everything. I'm really happy with how the intake manifold is looking. Having a friend take it to get powder coated wrinkle black to match the valve covers tomorrow. A little apprehensive to have someone else do this, especially considering the time, and money I have invested. I'm trusting it comes back as good as it should. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4701/...219b8974_c.jpgIMG_6993 |
At least you know what happened now. Make sure you take those baffles out of the valvecover.
|
^^ +eleventy million
Intake manifold looks awesome |
Same thing happened to my Mr2 engine. Sand blasted by P/O and it ended up taking out #3 bearing.
|
My buddy picked up my intake manifold today and sent me some teasers.. It was too big to fit in my oven :(

That looks friggin awesome!
|
The crank is still at the machine shop, and I'm kind of out of things to do until I can start to check bearing clearance. Sooo I haven't done much really lol

I know rome wasn't built in a day but I hate downtime during a build. That's when you start tinkering with random **** because you don't know what else to do.
|
|
too many cylinders, bro!
:) |
Ooooh shinny.
|
|
Sooo, how 'bout those heads?
|
Oh you mean this?

Never realizing the other head was damaged in shipping. It appears that it bounced up and was riding on top of the other head. Todd @ A&C is an absolute class act and I really can't complain about much. Things are being handled the way they should be. I just wish I would have seen it earlier when I had a bunch of down time. We found this damage the day I was intending on bolting them on and getting the engine back in the car. They're currently on their way back to the west coast to be fixed. |
Holy **** that is cheeks man. Glad that they're coming through for you!
|
its awesome that you can do so much of this yourself -- impressed with the lengths you went to to port and polish that intake manifold!
|
|
Finally :)
|
Moist.

Everything is done, less pushrods that are ordered and expected today. With any luck, it'll make music tonight. :)
Also new wheels/tires. 315/30/18 Nitto Nt01 345/30/19 Nitto Nt05 https://farm1.staticflickr.com/906/4...e6cc452d_c.jpg32886410_2145473499007371_3827148944039739392_n |

I took my bro for a ride and he was pretty certain it was faster than his Z06. We'll see how that plays out soon enough. |
Need vids to mastur...watch.
|
It sounds so good, and noticeably different. And it delivers power soooo much differently.
