Pssshhhh, my dad bought me a car too when I was 18 in 2003…… a 1990 Honda accord.

As everyone said, throw a light tint on it and call it a day. In the end, its your car and you can do what ever you want with your money.

daewoo 02-01-2012 12:23 PM

this has got to be a joke

Noodile 02-01-2012 12:47 PM

Are people hating on the idea that "mommy and daddy" bought him a car? or just pissed at him not being appreciative?

mckpat03 02-01-2012 12:54 PM

I think everyone is hating on him for being an idiot.

Granted, many dealers will try and 'void' your warranty but they legally can't. It is a battle in court and probally not worth the money to fight it but you WILL win. The bottom line is that modded a new car that has its warranty is just plain stupid.

Yes that I understand, and that makes perfect sense. But I have heard about some BS happening. Like I know someone that has a Spec-V, it was an 03 Spec-V that has known issues that cause the engine to pretty much blow up. He put an after market header on the car to battle the one issue (failing pre-cat on the stock header), and it was about a week or 2 after he did that, the other huge issue these cars have (butterfly screws in the secondaries loosen themselves and get sucked into the engine) happened and destroyed his engine. Somehow the dealership blamed the failure on the after market header and wouldn't cover the cost of a new engine. Grant it this was years ago but still, you can't be too careful.

Pretty much you said what I was trying to say: If you have a new car under warranty, modding it is asking for trouble. The last thing you want to do is void the warranty on a leased car and be forced to cover any maintenance costs yourself. Just doesn't seem worth the risk, especially for a Prius.

this

my steering rack went in my lexus, took it to the dealer and it was replaced no problem. the car was even slammed on coilovers and never questioned because it did not cause the problem.

SvicksTc 02-01-2012 01:03 PM

Ill chime in on the warranty info...I had a heavily modded toyota celica (in highschool) in which the engine throw a rod...they tried to blame my coilovers, 19'' rims, tried saying i had nitrous on the car that was previously removed, that i altered the ecu so they couldnt see the last "action" of the car...so on and so on...you name it, they tried to blame it...(as far as saying my interior modifications of custom system changed the weight distribution of the car (are you serious?)

So i got a lawyer and went through the process of taking them to court (since the new motor was like 8gs) Just so happened my dads lawyer owned him a favor and he did it pro-Bono...

Well in a nutshell after about 2 1/2 months of bickering outside of court and right up to the day of court they were fighting the warranty claim...come the night before court, they settled and took full responsibility for the warranty claim...

Assholes!

The aftermarket part has to be the direct reason for failure to void warranty as sated above covered under the magnum moss warranty act...Although they fight that **** tooth and nail and take advantage of many people

but still BAGGING A LEASED PRIUS MUHWAHAHAHAHA, this **** is retarded, sounds like the apple doesnt fall to far from the tree in terms of ignorance gained from your parents

Not knocking you for having them buy you a car, hell my rents bought my first car and it was a pretty penny...I totaled it and that was the last of that ****, lol

But really, for you saying that your all into cars and ****, you could of easily fixed the STi, but yet your rents get you a lease? Epic Facepalm is in order my friend

Well to an extent I don't blame them. Sometimes it isn't worth the hassle to fight back.

Ya it was really sad, to the point i will never get one of those extended warranties, or any of that extra bull**** ever again...because its not worth the hassle for the extra 4-5 grand they stiff you when purchasing them...

They make you feel all warm and fuzzy when you buy one from them (getting commission) but if you go to use it.. HAHA good luck!

Bend over and bring your own lube, because they are rough

When I read that all I thought about was the "guarantee" scene from "Tommy Boy" Lol.

"IF you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed for you I will, I have spare time."

sure it is. do you like just giving away money? thats pretty much what your doing when they should cover a part for you instead of saying you "voided" your warranty

So then I am forced to invest even more time and more money (to hire a lawyer) and take them to court and fight it, when it all could have been avoided by simply not modding my warrantied car?

Sure I want them to honor their warranty, but when I give them that all to convenient scapegoat, aka "the mod in question", I am just looking to start trouble.

No one likes to give away money, and I understand what you are saying completely, but when you play with fire, you will at some point get burned.

O2SpecV 02-01-2012 01:29 PM

do they even make coilovers or springs for priuses?

Lol @ starting the Prius scene. They've been modding hybrids in Japan for a long time and I know 2 guys that have tastefully, well-modified theirs.

You've it all wrong broham, we are laughing that the herp dur derps didn't learn their lesson after getting him the STI and then go out and get an el-fagatron pri-ass. Then the twat waffle following his herp dur derps footsteps decides it's a great idea to mod an over priced econo box that even gay people are embarrassed to drive. Guess it's true, apple doesn't fall far from the tree. :bigeek:

The thought of him being an ungrateful little **** throwing himself on the ground screaming while kicking and throwing his has nothing to do with wanting to see him do a barrel roll. :supz:

lownslow95 02-01-2012 02:56 PM

The OP said it was a lease. Why on gods earth would you mod a lease? You're just asking for trouble when you need to go in for routine maintenance. I hope the OP gets :banned:.

SHOdude 02-01-2012 02:57 PM

Maybe you should try blowing the prius up and see if they buy you a huffy. On a serious note. Just drive the miata or be happy your not walking.

If Mitsubishi gave an option to opt out of a warranty and pay less for the car then I would have.

I don't know why I'm responding to this in this thread. This thread is full of win, though.

You shouldn't have to pay more for the warranty then without. The car should work when its brand new.
