not all i had hoped for, but still really fun. i also hate having to win or trade for certain cars cause they're not in the used section but oh well. half the challenge of the game is acquiring the cars you need and its been that way since gt2-3

mcperson2k 11-30-2010 01:55 AM

someone enlighten me on the online play? is it laggy?

JB'sLGT 12-01-2010 12:43 PM

After playing for a couple days it seems the only major difference from GT4 (graphics aside) is the ability to play online. Of course thats a big deal, but its an obvious inclusion in the game considering the capabilities of every new game system.

For the most part the in-game graphics are good. There are a lot of issues with changing shadows around the car though. The first car I bought was a Miata. The fender arches are ridiculously pixelated, and thats just in the showroom. However, the FT86 Concept that I won looks great. It's obvious which models they took their time on. It sucks that aside from the premium models, it looks like they completely copied over the rendered cars from GT4.

Also, there's no brake upgrades?

What I want to know is, why the hell did it take 6 years for this to come out? I remember originally GT5 was supposed to be ready for the PS3 release. Don't get me wrong. I'll still be playing this nonstop for weeks to come, but for 6 years of development I was expecting more. A lot more.

I did a couple races last night 1 on 1 with a buddy and the races were never laggy. We both have good connections.

Im still debating on even getting the game. I never really liked the driving or really anything about any of the older GT games. Maybe Ill try this or maybe Ill just continue not to like the GT games. lol The way the cars handled and drove in the older games was slow and retarded to me. But thats just my opinion. I guess I like the more fast action arcade style racing better... Plus I have heard so many mixed reviews on this game I havent been able to make up my mind if I should try it.

pmanliu 12-01-2010 01:07 PM

biggest bug of the game - e46 m3 is not a premium model. shucks

on a sidenote, 2 month old, <8 hour of usage ps3 slim fried last night while playing gt5. going to warranty it but if someone wants my copy of gt5, you can have it for $60. Used for two days, save a buck or two on tax.

Photo mode is more fun than racing. I waited years for this game, and haven't played in over 2 days. Shows how much this game isn't as great as it should be.

Burnt2Death 12-01-2010 02:21 PM

^ Those are shots in the game? ^

Erik@R/TTuning 12-01-2010 02:58 PM

Those pics from the photo mode are gorgeous!

I like the game and will play the **** out of it too but I can't help but be a little disappointed in the game they finally brought to market. If you are going to take 6 years to make the game and push the release back over and over again it should have been mind blowing. Instead it is just good.

AutobahnRacer 12-01-2010 07:00 PM

Is there a list of which 200 are Premium models?

fitftw 12-03-2010 03:13 PM

gtplanet.net has all the info you need, including list of premium cars.

I am on Expert series now, but the races are getting longer and more annoying to me. I really just like to race against the clock, and online...the AI is garbage.

Honest_Bob 12-09-2010 10:00 AM

I much prefer forza 3. I could care less about the windshield wipers comming on and the jets flying across the sky as you race.

ghostRS 12-09-2010 05:18 PM

If anyone wants to try it out but doesn't want to pay $60 there is a Buy 2 Get 1 free at Gamestop stores from the 10th to the 12th, starting tomorrow. Im gonna pick it up with a couple other games for cheaper.

Forza 3 has always been quite glitchy for me, so if GT5 runs better Ill be happy. (you should see the horribleness that is the Nurburgring on my Forza 3 copy, its terrible. The sky and ground are corrupted to different blotchy colors.)

GT5s visuals are great other than the standard cars and dynamic shadows. The shadows really need a fix.

ghostRS 12-10-2010 03:35 PM

Just picked it up with 5 other PS2 games today from the B2G1 free. So far GT5 is looking and playing pretty good. Its not quite as pretty as i thought it would be but its still far and beyond Forza for me.

i_ride_fieroGT 12-10-2010 03:41 PM

I have also gotten bored of GT5. I pretty much bought a PS3 for this game and dont like it. I'v gone back to playing fallout new vegas im that bored with it

mcperson2k 12-27-2010 02:23 PM

GF bought it for me for Christmas. I didn't like it at first but last night I explored everything a little more in depth. I like the driving better in this game, but I like the track's a lot better in Forza, the track environment just seems bland in GT5. However, I do LOVE all the little detailed aspects of the game, from the exhaust tips/windshield wipers, to the way the cars change sound when you upgrade the engine components. I like the way the used car lot changes after each race, giving you a chance to pick up some less common cars. I am still waiting to find a Probe? I bought a new Civic hatch for my first car, so I could play in cockpit view... I HATE how there are standard and premium models... Obviously it makes for more cars, but I hope in the future they release updates to convert some of these. Its silly not being able to put rims on certain cars.

Edit: The default controls are... old school? I had to change them asap, how do you feather the throttle with the x button and break lightly with the square!

mcperson2k 12-27-2010 06:22 PM

First time transferring a picture from the PS3... I have no idea what all the different camera settings do... Someone school me real fast. Why does mine look blurry.

I find the people that are already bored with it need to do other things than play video games for 8 hours a day. :P
I play for about 2 hours a week and I don't see myself getting bored with it any time soon. Gotta pace yourself. :D

daewoo 01-03-2011 02:18 AM

the game play is completely retarded
i never thought id say this but forze blows it out of the water

jspek 01-03-2011 02:33 AM

only reason i got bored with it is i bought my car and maxed it out. and its forcing me to do races i couldnt careless to do just to move up levels.

fitftw 01-14-2011 12:54 AM

the bonus races are great, especially the last 2 races in each one. I don't even mess with the first race since it's worthless.

I pretty much spend my time online drifting and buying used cars.

Thread so dead, writhing in pain
Arise, arise, to post again!

I'm thinking of picking this up and giving it a try regardless of the bad hype. Can always return and get my money back. Anyone have any really particularly bad experiences? I feel like this game's fun factor is very low due to the lack of races and of course lack of modification to vehicles. But it is GT and I know the physics are top notch...

Yes. The game is awesome if you make friends that know how to race.

93EGY8 03-05-2011 01:43 PM

We need to have a tst race, like the forza guys do.

fitftw 03-05-2011 02:42 PM

I'm down for that
