I would have a real hard time taking anything from my grandma.
If she insist then do the right thing and get the most reliable one and keep it that way. |

Lol she told me to get a GTO because she thought it looked like a nice car. She did insist but she said get the best one you can ghet for the price. I dont think a cobalt SS is to bad of a car for it. She likes it as well. I told her she dident have to help me with it but she did insist. |
second on that WRX suggestion. u wont regret it once ur out snow drifting while all the 2wd people are stuck indoors

If you're not concerned with straight line performance, you can get a SC'd Cobalt for a steal. I'm sure making it handle as well as the TC'd vehicles isn't hard. Neither of my SRT-4's have ever let me down. They are not as refined as a Cobalt SS, however they sure do respond to mods well. I'm not a fan of GTO's. However if you're going to get one, make sure its the LS2 (6.0). |

modified did a budget build with a wrx automatic this month. I wouldn't rule one of those out. The non-sti automatic would be good on insurance, and following the article (just in case) Later on you wanted to tune it you can get better than stock sti #'s and power! My awd dsm started out it's life as a 1.8 liter, Great on insurance and a few hundred horsies!

Heres what i have to take into account though. The only subie in my price range thats properley equipted is i think the 1st year for the WRX 2nd it has close to 60K on it 3rd it needs some work. The SRT-4 im looking at has 30K on it owned by a guy in his late 30's that took very good care of the car left it stock and dident beat on it. The cobalt im looking at has 15K miles on it Very niceley equipted from the factory left all stock and is the cheapist of the 3. Im highley considering the SRT-4 because they are just straight up nasty. And also like i said i have no plans to modd the car. Plus my dad spcificly stated if i modd anything besides wheels tint and radio hes taking it. The fiero's i have are the cars im focusing my work into this is just going to be a DD but i want something interisting for it. |
Cobalt SS. this way, when were both newly-born cobalt owners, we can rely on eachother >=D

my buddy has a cobalt SS, hes going to the airforce in a few months so he might be selling it. hows 320hp sound to you?

But, on your list I would look at the Colbalt (turbo only). Best bang for the buck if you ask me and that motor responds very well to mods. Julie is looking at getting an HHR SS that shares the same motor. Stage 1 kit from GM is $550 installed and give only 30 extra HP but 90TQ and doesn't void your warrenty either. Or don't buy another car because you have enough already. Maybe save up and make something of yourself. |
Isn't the idea here to get into something reliable, that's going to last for awhile? Not buying another 'just for fun' car?
I don't know how well the Cobalt itself ranks, but Chevy isn't exactly synonymous with durability. I'd be looking at either the Honda or I'd be seriously reconsidering adding a Subie to the list. |
I'm not sure how old you are or what your family dynamic is like...and certainly not to look a gift horse in the mouth (yes, I just called your grandmother a horse), but it sounds like this "gift" has a lot of strings attached. I'd be quite weary of it. I can see them (your Dad) holding that car over your head in the future too.

whoever is willing to pay 4k for your v6 firebird is a dummy. tell him to join after they buy it so we can laugh at their expense |
