All great ideas, we could definitely plan for something like that in the future. You're more then welcome to come driftcrash, this is open to anyone who wants to come out.

Keep up the recommendations....I'm going to put a list together and we'll see about setting up a schedule.

I'm also thinking this will be more of a once a month thing then every week since most people won't be able to make it out every weekend. Maybe first or last Sunday of every month.

I'll find out the name for you next time I go to my office in Reading. It's located across from the tortilla factory in Reading....maybe a local Reading person can help me out here. Another AMAZING place in reading is lil San Juan's in Reading....it sells cuban food. Best cuban sandwiches I've ever had in my life and its a family owned business.

I know what your talking about.. I've been meaning to go to it... Heard from a few mexicans it's OFFICIAL.. I forget the name.. I'll try to find out tomorrow

The taco place is called "el puente"

jpalamar 03-15-2010 02:46 PM

Brick House in Pottstown, PA. Its a bar but they have a nice sit down area and have awsome food. Great sandwitches, wraps, wings, ect. Very reasonable prices. I know the owner and he is a really cool dude with having meets at his place. He is into cars and bikes especially.

I could set something up there with him if you need.

And all the waitresses are smoken hot and wear tight black pants! Ask for Michelle.

$.39 wing nights on Mondays!

White Manna in Hackensack NJ...Its like White Castle but On crack...This was a Quick Review of the place by someone who went. "Tasty Sliders in a Cool little Mini Diner bought from the 1929
New York Worlds Fair. This is one of the Coolest places to get a Burger in the entire Tri-State area, and that includes New York.
A Religious Burger Experience. All Manhattan Burger Freaks owe it to themselves to Road Trip here"

And Silkk City Diner was on Diners Drives in and Dives...Its in Philly right on Spring Garden...There Fried Mac and Cheese is Off the Hook.

And Finally, The Pop Shop in Collingswood NJ right on Haddon Ave. The have like 32 Different Kinds of Grilled Cheese!!!

Well all my suggestions are for meals that cost between $40-140 per head, and that doesn't really fit in with all of the suggestions thus far.

But I know some good eats. Come to Vetri with me. I know Jeff Benjamin's and Jeff Michaud. I don't really know Vetri, but my dad knows him. I know Tom Peters and Fergi of Monk's Cafe if you want some good beer. Then there is Noble. I also like Amada.

Blackfish in Conshohocken is good. I met Chip, the chef/owner last year. He studied under Georges Perrier. I like Le Bec Fin, but I also love french food.

But based on the Fuji meet that I hosted the other night, I think most people on TST don't want to spend over $20 for dinner.

EvlEgl 03-22-2010 05:36 PM

I'll Pay for a good meal...It better blow my socks off for 140 a head though...Lol

Based on that right there, you have expensive taste.

Well the thing is at $140/head you have to have an understanding and appreciation for the food.

Of course it's going to taste good, but to willingly pay that much for around 9 courses requires understanding the involvement that went into making that dish: where the product is from, the cost of that product, how the chef prepares it--it all makes up that price. Also a sophisiticated understanding of food and taste itself. Texture contrasts. Temperature contrasts. Taste layers.

I've seen people eat very expensive items and although they say it's good, it's evident that they don't understand the item and therefore don't understand why it's so expensive.

It's like when you watch the food Network. Watch Iron Chef. The foodies on the judge panel understand the food while the celelbrity guests usually don't and it's pretty obvious.

Well I don't go to often. I do an expensive tasting maybe twice a year. The first time I went there, though, I went with one of my father's long time customers. He is the Vice President of this food group instituted by King Henry in the 15th century. Tom Knox is the President. This guy picked up Perrier from the airplane when he came to America from France 30+ years ago, so Georges cooked for us personally. Pretty damn amazing.

The first time I went to Vetri was when I was 14. That was the first time I had foie gras. Love at first bite.

DPancoast 03-22-2010 05:57 PM

La Tolteca for Mexican - only 3 in PA... not a chain per-say and their food is very good and well priced.

Sawaii Indian Cuisine for Indian - Red Hill PA - I've eaten at a couple different indian places in the area, and this is by far THE BEST.

Nadia Thai for Thai - Lansdale PA - Very good. Can get really busy, but it's not terrible service.

Vietnam Palace for Vietnamese food - Philly - Seriously unbeatable IMHO.

Blue Fin - Plymouth Meeting for Jap/Sushi/Asain

That's all I have so far. I've eaten at all the above places and they are very VERY good... especially when you consider that I am vegetarian and if they can make good food for me, it's pretty certain the rest of their food is good. Friends that I go with that are not vegeterians raved about all of these places as well and that is why I go to most of the foreign places. Any links I posted that are review type sites do not reflect my opinion fully if at all lol. They are just there to give you and idea of what I am talking about.
