The only thing that made it look like a Grand Prix was the bumper. It just so happens Pontiac likes doing that nonsense..I don't. I don't really mind it, but i'd love to change it ASAP. With a new bumper, the lines just flow so much better.

There are plenty of tiny problems (I have most of them..lol), but to be honest, not nearly the amount of normal, American cars. And nothing people can't fix with a warranty. The fact is..I bought a 350hp car with a warranty, luxurious interior, space to move stuff...for 18,000$ and only 7K miles. For a new car, well, that's a good deal..no? You can buy what..a regular Civic with that?

And for more neoWRX bashing..

In the US all it did was pave the way for the STI and EVO to be brought over, but globally it is an Icon. That is more true in countries that follow WRC where cars that mean nothing here, like the Peugeot 206 or the Citroen C4, also have cult like followings.

I'd argue that the original Audi Quattro might be a slightly bigger icon, only insofar as it really put rallying on the map. But that's another topic..

Ender81 08-31-2007 08:38 AM

Oh I'm not saying it is the biggest Icon by a long shot, and I agree the Audi Quattro and also the BMW M3, both of which lent styling to the last gen WRX (Look at an 80's M3 and a WRX and you will see it). That quote from the Stig is funny though, your car has more HP and is RWD but had the same lap time as the WRX, speaks volumes about both cars.

ozthunder 08-31-2007 09:11 AM

Yea I posted it b/c theres a Halo around the STi as a track car. The fact that a car with 600 more lbs, maybe 75 more hp was able to keep up on a road course is pretty impressive IMHO.

I saw a couple pictures and the sedan kinda resembled a newer Camry to me. Pretty blah looking. The look of the hatch is growing on me though.

NOPSTNS 08-31-2007 05:11 PM

yeah stig battles....!

340 hp m3
131.8

300 hp 350z

ozthunder 08-31-2007 07:10 PM

which is hilarious because of GM's no racing edict in the olden days the new one fits the name better than the old one. howthe hell do you claim its a ****golated race car when the company doesnt race? idiots

NOPSTNS 09-01-2007 07:35 AM

u cant say h0mogolated? ahahhaa.

lol....the GTO's were factory sponsored drag cars back then. There's an entire history of dealerships, like Royal Pontiac, which created the Bobcat, going out and drag racing GTO's and other muscle cars. GM put the Tripower in it, which made it on par with the Vette. They got away with it for a couple years, then didn't, and hence the 400 came about. All of the motors..including the Ram Air IV and the ultimate Ram Air V were tested on the track by a variety of dealers. In fact, Royal was the dealer who "massaged" the 64 GTO for the Car and Driver review that lauded as one of the greatest cars ever.

To say that they didn't race is nonsense!

And as for today?

the reasoning behind the "5 door" as its officially called is almost a good enough reason for everyone to stop their whining. Petter Solberg (subrau WRC driver) wanted a smaller car, with less front and rear overhang so it could climb, descend, and get airborne without as much chance of scraping the front or rear of the car. (from a reliable source at SOA)

Rally inspired changes FTW.

ozthunder 09-04-2007 10:25 PM

Poor designing department and world-wide automotive backlash FTL!

NOPSTNS 09-04-2007 10:34 PM

hahahahaha

OWND!

Dave 09-05-2007 12:07 AM

not nonsense. fact. a dealership is NOT the factory. were they impressive for what they were? oh yeah. but thats the important word there, "what". we arent talking bout a racing car, or even a grand tourer, this was a regular old sedan with a big engine stuffed in it. i dont know about you but it sounds like primitive srt-4 to me

That's how it was man..the factory went through the dealers, and Pontiac functioned as a seperate entity from GM..hence the tripower.

I read an entire book on this stuff over Xmas..the history of the GTO. They were meant to "go racing", and the definitions that we have today of sponsorship are both similar and dissimilar to yesterday.

lol, i read it 3 times to understand what you were responding too.

Dave 09-05-2007 12:14 AM

i tend to ramble

NOPSTNS 09-05-2007 07:35 AM

doesnt GTO stand for something italian which meant "bunch of parts from other cars put into one"

thats like american car comps' trademark! the parts bin special!

jk man, im on his side when he talks about dealers makin crazy gtos, reason why is bc of the camaro...i forget what it was called but u could go to a specific dealer and request THEIR package on it, and GM WOULD BUILD IT, then send it to you....

damn i wish i could remember what it was called. z09 or something? i think there was a 9 in it.....

Dave 09-05-2007 07:46 AM

ZL1 is what you are thinking about i believe

Buster 09-05-2007 08:25 AM

GM has done that for years, **** in the last what 20 years almost they have worked hand in hand with SLP. Everyone forgets the Firehawk.
