I have General Arctic with studs on my 240 this season :) So far so good. Can't beat studs!!

As long as it's just based on moving through snow & ice.
I put super low speed rating Firestone Winterforce tires on my old 2.5RS.
It was unstoppable in the bad stuff... mud too lol.
Straight line stability & cornering were borderline non-existant.

QFT. Been driving my g/fs Jetta currently equipped with the Winterforce. The cut of the tread looks like something on a muddin' truck. The car is all over the road though. It's a bit unnerving.

Wait till you have some snow time with them. They're unbeatable for the price. The handling tradeoff is huge though.

Nokian snow tires > Blizzaks

Well just speakin from my personal experience, never had a set of Nokians. But Blizzaks had been good to me and I never once got stuck, even with one occasion of pullin out of like 8 inches of packed snow after the car had been sittin all day. Could ask for a bit longer life on em, but what ya gonna do. I only run em for 2 or 3 months out of the year anyway.

Subie_sleeper 12-14-2010 04:11 PM

I've run both. The nokians grip a little better in snow & a lot better on ice. They also hold up better.

I have a set of snows on my rwd truck and they make a huge difference over the all season tires I use the rest of the year
And if your buying a second set of wheels your Better off with snows
On the other hand snows are really soft rubber so doing burnoose or rippin around turns will wear them out a lot faster

My brothers car has them and they are awsome. Only thing I noticed was there was a little road noise and the sidewalls felt a bit softer durring agressive driving. But for the price and a 540 treatwear rating I can look the other way on that.

FocusDude 12-18-2010 10:33 AM

I think Blizzaks are pretty F-in good. But now I wanna try a set of these Nokians.

The wifeys legacy was in for an oil change/tire rotation on Wednesday. I checked the tread indicators on all 4 tires while they were off the car.

The indicators are an "8 6 4" In a few of the center tread blocks (so it's easy to check on the car)

The tires have over 15k on them and almost all of the "6" is still there on all four tires. We got the tires in late January. I'm figuring we'll get two and a half to three years out of them before their winter traction starts to fade.

My friend James is getting similar wear on his set & runs them on a WRX. Also year round.

You got them after the storm and had them on your car for like 1 day, you aren't in any position to judge them at the moment.

If you haven't DRIVEN on the snow tires in ............. SNOW, you're opinion on their performance isn't worth much.
Just my opinion. ;)

I absoultly love my ExtremeWinterContacts. Taller and narrower (-1) ftw. My soft summer tires become a surfboard in snow and just plain suck on cold asphalt.

But I have driven through snow. The day I put em on I went out to find some snow and I did. Actually at least 5" worth. Granted it wasn't during the storm but it was very icy and I got great traction. Had to try em out

Awesome ice stopping. Pretty good just on a cold, dry road too. Blizzaks are way overrated.

I never understood the point of all seasons if you are an enthusiast. Why get something designed to do everything that ends up not doing any one particular thing well?

No other first world country mainly buys all seaons. Mostly everyone in many European countries have two sets of wheels and tires.
Must be that good ol Merican logic of half assing things. Good nough fer govt.
