What has he done that you have been able to judge his skill for F1?

Really? Do you know anything about Nascar? Must not if you can make that kind of assumption.

And this really is not a step down. Obviously this isn't the Nascar fan crowd and I'm sure it's such a cake walk compared to rally. You can't compare both obviously.

Either way that's good for him. He will be coming over just like Jeremy McGrath (however you spell it) and will take time to adapt to the way the car runs.

Sucks but it's a whole new challenge. I think Nascar is boring as hell but it's far from easy even though you are turning left all day. Good luck to him, was looking forward to seeing more of him at Rally events though next year.

Dirt bikes, Monster Trucks, TV Shows, Rally Cars, and now NASCAR. He's obviously wants to do everything he can, while he can, and i really admire that! I wonder when he'll go to NHRA haha

F that, next year he will be racing boats. Hell maybe hot air balloons.

I'll be interested to see if he can hold onto his lead long enough to finish. Travis has shown through his sporadic appearances in motocross racing (he's typically a freestyler) and supercross racing that he has the speed to win. He's always had the speed to win, and if he had the dedication to motocross racing that he does for FMX, theres no doubt he'd be a top runner. Id even go as far to say as he'd be the next Ricky Carmichael. But Travis' performance in motocross racing leads me to beleive that while he has the speed, he lacks the discipline to stay up front for the duration of a race. Travis is (imo) the type of rider who either WINS, or DNF's. "If you aint first, YOURE LAST."

It'll be interesting to see what his strategy is for Nascar. In motocross it seems he rides BALLS OUT, gets to the front as quickly as possible, and if things go according to plan, no one can touch him. Ill be interested to see if his drives in a similar fashion, or if he holds back and tries to make his move towards the end of the race.

meh honestly he is kinda old for getting into the sport and if he was good enough he would have been on redbulls team instead of nascar haha.

i didn't know racing @ 200 mph and being within 2-3 inches from other cars was easy and didn't require skill... anyone wanna meet up on 22, 222, or 78 and try this ****? lol

one of the biggest reasons I can see that they mentioned in the article is the fan base. there has to be someone, somewhere paying him off to draw crowds and gain an audience.

not saying its the only thing, I can see why he would want to go to NASCAR. why not? lol

I use to think that way until I had a chance to drive the trioval at Pocono. Yes, NASCAR is thought of 40 redneck jackoffs driving 500 miles in a circle, but at those speeds and that close to other cars, its definitely something that takes quite a bit of concentration and skill. Its one thing that people don't know what its like until you try it. There si a reason why some drivers don't do all that well in NASCAR whenswitchign from other forms of racing and also a reason why many non NASCAR drivers didn't do well in the old IROC series on ovals.

I am curious how much Pastrana had to spend to get that seat. He obviously spent a lot since he is now co-owners of the team he is driving on, Patrana-Waltrip Racing (formerly MWR). MWR had been looking for a financial backer for most of the season, hopefully this influx of cash and sponsorships gives both Michael and Travis opportunities to be competitive in races.

I've been a fan of Pastrana's since his early moto days, but I do not think he is nearly talented enough to even be a test driver for F1. Hopefully he does well in NASCAR, it is a tough sport to transition into from other racing disciplines (see: Hornish, Allmendinger, Speed [JPM and Stewart are anomalies], especially non-road racing motorsports.


While I'm sure that you said that with sarcasm...I'll point out that both Travis and Dave did the damage to their own cars.

Dave hit the tires coming out of the chicane, entering the bowl. Travis hit the tires exiting the chicane after the bowl.

the body damage was all caused by the driver, yes. However I know that Pastrana was frustrated with the car itself after several engine failures throughout the 3 rallycross weekends.

Unless you are from the south, and then he just reached the pinnacle.

I don't think NASCAR is where I'd like to be, but it is were the money and notoriety is now.

Raced? If rallycrosses were longer than four laps, he would be what is known as a rolling chicane.
