Alright guys...2 weeks till im 21. Went up to Cabelas today to check some stuff out, what a ****ing zoo. I plan on going up there the 28th (or when ever the next best day would be) when they open at 8am to try to beat some of the crowd and finally purchase the guns i was looking at earlier in this thread. Some ?'s though, im planning on purchasing a glock 19 (9mm) and a AR-15 (5.56x45mm), for the AR will i need anything other than proof im 21? Such as a FFL? Also i was looking at some kind of short range scope and a light, any recommendations. I just dont want to drive up there and have high hopes and then get......wait for it.....shot down. lol Thanks guys

Cabela's = overpriced nonsense. The best time to go is during a week night...especially in a downpour LoL. I was there Thursday night and there was literally 20 cars in the parking lot if that. There was more employees than customers.

If you're looking for an AR why wait? Buy mine that's for sale and already has a bunch of accessories...I'll cut you a deal since you're local, especially since you'll be paying cash. You don't need to be 21 to purchase a long gun in the state of PA. Just need to have proof of ID and we'll do a bill of sale.

Also go support your local gun shops instead of Cabela's. You'll probably find a handgun there a lot cheaper. Also go onto the classifieds of www.pafoa.org There's always Glocks for sale in there for less than what Cabela's is charging. Should also check out the gun shows. I saw some good deals on guns today at the one in Leesport. There's one coming up in Valley Forge on April 1st you could check out if you're 21 before then.

OK so seriously, who's in for a group shoot at my buddy's farm? He said sundays are good. I can do it pretty much any weekend except this one coming up.

I'm 100% in for any weekend/Sunday except for 3/26, 3/27. Definitely psyched to go shooting again, especially outdoors with warmer weather (hopefully).

Is said farm BBQable? It would be cool to get our sh*t together enough ahead of time so that we can make it an 'event' and not just show up and use your buddy's land to waste ammo and leave. lol. I'd be cool with bringing some food, chairs, etc. I can also bring some target stands to make things interesting. I have four 6' stands for human sized targets and I have a pretty much unlimited supply of cardboard from work.

Yes, said farm is indeed BBQable and often is during the summer. Target stands would be cool too.

Right now I'm thinking April 10th, since I'll be at the Valley Forge show on the 3rd. Everyone cool with that?

Picked up a Colt AR-15 from Munky yesterday...slowly learning my way around the gun and being obnoxiously cautious lol. Bought 4 ProMag 30 rd. clips and 200 rounds of .223 last night along with a cleaning kit and some oil. Also bought 20 rounds of 5.56 for one i'll keep at home. I'm really aching to get out there and start shooting, just need my ammo and time. Gun came with a lot of extras and the only thing that i prolly wont use is the second handle out in front. Here are some pics..

I plan on taking off the second handle and moving the rail to the right hand side and find a light and a scope. After that im going to shoot some handguns and find out what i like before i purchase, really leaning towards the Glock 19, feels good, good reviews, and looks great. Just need to shoot it....

Also, I'd stay away from promag magazines. They're hit-or-miss, quality-wise. I know I wouldn't trust one in my AR if SHTF. Do yourself a favor and stock up on magpul pmags. Only a couple bucks more expensive than promag but MUCH better quality.

Also, that "second handle" is called a vertical fore grip. You'll learn in time, young padawan. ;-)

and below is the most recent method of gripping an AR forearm that is being taught today in special forces:

I find it kind of uncomfortable but it does give you a lot of control over the barrel when changing directions. Some people like to use a vertical foregrip to locate their front hand and ensure it is always in the same position, like so:

I told him to only buy Pmag's and I even showed him one of my 20 mags. I guess I wasn't specific enough in saying to get PMAG not PROmag.:o
