Hm. I smoked for about 10 years. Here's how I quit. When I first got my wisdom teeth out I tried to quit. I switched to those low nicotine cigs . uhh quest or something like that but they were only available at certain wawa's. After I got my wisdom teeth out (hell) I couldn't smoke for at least a week but a fight with the gf 7 days later and I was smoking. Which brings me to later. I switched back to marlboro menthol lights. I weaned myself down to about half a pack a day. From there I bought the patch kit and I started with the second level. By the end of the week I was so overdosed with nicotine I got sick. After I quit and the second week I started feeling better. It took about 2-3 months before I stopped having that nagging feeling. I mean it was literally 3 months where a part of my life like my right arm or something is just GONE. I was pretty miserable. But slowly I started forgetting. After about 4 months I'd have entire days where I'd not even realize I want a cigarette. At that point I decided I could smoke. So I bummed a cigarette and smoked it full force like I was still a smoker. After I was finished I was so nauseated and felt SOOOO bad for almost 2 hours. Since then... ex smoker. I still try to smoke now and again but after the first drag or two I'm reminded of how horrible of an idea it is.
I feel like my specific actions helped me along. That overdose of nicotine in the first week really got me over that first 3-5 days of nightmare.. but you're way past that. But I think you can't cheat. Because if you do you're only cheating yourself. You're not allowed to try to smoke again until you legitimately don't care if you have one or not.
Lately I've been wanting to get a pipe or a hooka with fruit tobacco or something weird. Maybe cloves. I literally just miss the act of smoking but man does it taste foul to me now. I'd maybe smoke weed but I really have to stay squeaky clean for my job (both legally and mentally). I'd say you'll get there if you wait long enough but only certain people really develop a distaste for it. Good luck anyway, and stay quit. You can rationalize that smoking may not be that bad for you, but it's definitely not good for you ;) I mainly quit out of fear of an early death. The money didn't bug me at all. And the sheer amount of friends and socializing I had because of it was mind boggling. But I got over it...
