1000rds of American Eagle 9mm for 169 from Classic. If it isn't worth it stop me now. lol. Figured grab whatever deals I can while I wait. Grabbed a nice range bag and a case to carry targets and ammo in. Just need the guns at this point. 7 weeks today since I filed for the permit.

Walmart has Winchester white box, 100 rounds of 9mm for right under $11 (10.96 or something), which comes out to .11/bullet. Classic's prices are about 17cents/bullet. So if there is a Walmart on the way, stop there instead to save yourself some coin (that buys you a lot of extra rounds!). I honestly haven't shopped around for bulk ammo (like 1000), but I'm sure you can find it MUCH cheaper.
.45 at walmart is up to $29/100, and it's still one of the best deals around for quality ammo. |
I need to find a Walmart in PA then. I take it Winchester is decent ammo then?
|
Perfect target ammo. It's not self-defense ammo, but I guess you don't really have to worry about that yet anyway!

Ive got a box of Hydra-Shoks already for the home defense ammo. Hopefully I never have to use it. My buddies lives on the border of Easton so when I go to see him this week Ill run over to Walmart. Never been into one that sold firearms and ammo so this should be a treat. lol.

Wow, I remember when all the SA in Jersey carried all kinda of firearms and ammo. Looks like Monday night Ill headed over the border to Walmart then to Classic for abit with my buddy. Maybe my luck will kick in and my paperwork will be in Monday morning. That would be nice since its my last week of vacation and would like to spend some time at the range.

I was wondering if you guys could help me with a debate. Im looking into buying my first hand gun, never shot a handguun before either. My choices i think have been cut down to the Glock 26, Glock 40 cal (same size as the 26) and a S&W 9mm Mp something comes with a 3rd finger grip. These are just some of my preffered guns after shopping around for a week, im still going to do some looking arround at some other also but i want a concealable sized gun. any info, pointers, or suggestions would be nice!

Well like Ive found go and hold them and shoot them and find the one that feels the most comfortable to you. Ive probably rented about 7-8 guns in the last couple weeks trying to find the one I like the best and even tried some more then once to to be sure. The G26 with the pinky extension is a great gun but what I dont like the lack of safetys for concealed carry. Try finding a XD9 3" subcompact. Ive grown to love the XD series from Springfield. If you are looking for a full sized then the XD9 service model, the Sig P220/229/226, HK USP, Beretta 92FS. Glock 19. All great guns, just need to find what feels the best in your hand, comfortable shooting, and fits what you need it for. Come out to Classic one night. They have a bunch of handguns to rent and its 50 bucks for a rental, eye/ear protection, 100rds of ammo, 2 targets/backers, and the range time. I think its 15 bucks for every rental also. Lets you see what one you like the best. Are you looking for strickly a carry weapon or something to bring out to the range also? I would recommend 9mm if you plan on doing both on because of the cost of 40/45 cal ammo for range shooting is pricey compared to 9mm.
Anyone know if Classic lets you shoot .22 rimfire rifles? A buddy of mine wants to go but I know some places wont let you shoot rimfire guns |

Im opinion of Glock is this. They are awesome guns but the lack of safetys in my eyes is what would keep me from making it a carry gun. I would personally pick a XD9 subcompact for a conceal carry gun. But thats just me. Its all different for each person. The different style holsters would allow for easy concealment of full frame handguns without discomfort. But again it all leads to what you like and comfortable with. Before you worry about carrying thou I would hold and shoot some guns. Maybe even take a firearms safety class. I know in NJ to get a CCW you need to have taken a safety class and a instructor led shooting class. Steve(ITSTOCK) showed me a good site. Glocktalk.com which has alot of info that might be helpful too. |
the .40 subcomp. is the Glock 27. Goodfella already hit the points about holding and shooting guns first.
Now on to the safety thing...if you truly want a carry weapon, you don't want a safety. If you are ever in the situation of needing to defend yourself, a safety can get you killed. Fiddling with a safety in a desperate situation is not fun. Forgetting the safety is even worse. The only safety that a gun will ever need is the owner, and their trigger finger. If you aren't going to shoot the gun (whether you are taking a picture of yourself holding a gun  , showing someone a gun, etc), keep your finger off the trigger. It by no means should stop you from buying a Glock. Most of the top concealable guns (mainly revolvers) lack that safety, and it's just one of the many items of what makes them the best cc guns out there. BUT, and it's a big BUT, if you don't feel comfortable buying a gun without a safety, it's your call. In that same sentence, it should say that you should put off carrying a gun until you feel comfortable with it also. And yes, CP lets you shoot .22's (they are also one of the few indoor ranges that allow .17's  ) |
I just wanna clear up when I say safety. I dont mean the normal switch type safety. Its why I like the XD series so much. Its has a good safety system that doesn't, in my eyes, limit you ability to use the weapon in a crisis situation. It seems to be a major debate all over on that topic from what Ive seen. This is what I mean with the XD and safety..
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...eon732/xd9.jpg I don't know why I like having that little piece of mind when I go to grab my firearm that as I remove it from the holster in a panic situation Im not running the small risk of shooting myself in the leg. Even the most skilled shooter runs a risk in a crisis of missing a step. At least in my opinion that little safety on the grip takes alittle less chance out of it. Im no expert by any means, Im just stating opinion here. I think a firearms safety class or a NRA firearms course would be a good idea to anyone wanting to get a CCW. Again, I think they are required anyway for the permit. I totally agree with Steve on alot of the points he hit. Trigger discipline is one of the major things anyone owning a gun should have. How many times do you see someone taking a picture of themselves with their finger inside of the guard? Treat every gun like its loaded, even when its not. |

You're 100% correct that its all personal preference. I would never tell someone not to buy a Glock for that reason since Im purchasing one myself. Ive tried to keep everything Ive said strictly as my own opinion and let whomever make the choices on their own. If I ever get a CCW(now thats funny) I would probably carry whichever I felt comfortable with the most. Whether it be the XD or the Glock.
|
I'm going to buy something smaller, the G26 is still too big for summertime CCW. I can't find the right holster, just better off getting a smaller gun....until winter/spring when I wear looser clothing.

Some wanna help explain ammo grains? I keep seeing 124, 135, 147gr. Whats the difference? +P and +P+?
