I've run over 1000's of rounds of Tulammo through my Glock, Kimber, Sig, Colt AR, & MSAR without a single issue at the range. It's cheap at Wally World and runs just fine. Everyone bitches about how dirty it is and how it'll mess up the guns but I've yet to see any residual side effects. Now for carry I only use brass HP's which I do fire a mag or two through the guns just to function test it from time to time. But with the cost of ammo it's the cheaper the better these days.

This is just a "light" trip to Wally World for ammo.

At under $15 for .45acp and under $9 for 9mm and under $5 for .223 I don't really see a reason why not to?!?!

Only point I'd like to add here is that you should ALWAYS ALWAYS test whatever JHP defensive ammo you plan on using in your pistol to make sure it feeds reliably. For example, for some reason my XD45 doesn't like hornady JHPs. The hollowpoint hangs up on the feed ramp about 2 or 3 rounds per mag. Obviously, this would be a ****ty thing to have found out in the middle of a gun fight.

When you decide which defensive JHPs you're going to carry run at least a few boxes of them through your gun to make sure they don't cause any malfunctions before relying on them to defend your life.

oh, and the shoot was a BLAST!! (get it? lol)

I think my favorite was actually Dave's pistol grip, stock-less, mossberg. PS90 and the .357 were next, followed closely by the judge.

Next time we should head over to my buddy's farm.

Thanks everyone for letting me shoot your toys! Special thanks to Svicks for finding the $1+ per round .380 Ranger JHPs that I dropped all over the floor!

I've also had no problems with Tul Ammo. It's dirty, but it feeds into, goes bang, and ejects from every gun I've ever shot it through. I clean my guns right after shooting anyway so there's never a chance of anything going wrong because of the dirtyness. I picked up a few UMC bulk packs at walmart the other day too and I had no problems with that either. I've actually never had a single hiccup with any brand through both my M&P or my Sig. Lots of people talk about problems with different kinds of ammo, especially cheap stuff, but I can't understand that. Maybe I'm just lucky?

On another note - my P229 is back up for sale. The guy who was supposed to buy it Monday night backed out at the last minute. Let me know if you're interested. Those who saw/shot it at CP on Sunday know its condition is about as good as it gets for a used gun.

Im sure some of you guys herd of these people but www.doubletapammo.com makes by far the craziest bullets for self defense. much more velocity and energy behind there ****.

Federal Hydra-Shok vs. Hornady Critical Defense...

Thoughts?

hydra-shok is dated (but has a cool expansion pattern), I <3 hornady but carry speer gold dots. or HST where applicable.

rodder 02-04-2011 01:00 PM

no hydroshocks.

there were some independent tests done with them that don't show them in a very positive light. Try googling and you should be able to find what I'm talking about.

Winchester Ranger SXT or Speer Gold Dot are what the vast majority of LEO's are issued. I've heard Hornady makes good stuff too, but my XD45 doesn't like to feed Hornady TAPs. YMMV.

Whatever you pick, remember to verify function in YOUR pistol before expecting them to go bang every time you pull the trigger. Just because your buddy has the same gun as you and loves a certain type of ammo doesn't mean it will perform the same in your gun.

I usually run AT LEAST 50 rounds of whatever I'm planning on carrying through my guns before depending on them. It's a lot better to find out your gun doesn't like to feed a particular kind of ammo at the range than in the middle of a gun fight.
