Not to mention if it's taking up space in a garage, that's a space that you could rent for $100 or so a month. $100*12*20 = $24,000 + the interest you earned off your original unspent 20g's. Collecting cars is a rich man's game. Until you're rich, wise up :-P

You obviously don't drive anywhere else often. Jersey simply has THE worst roads in the country. Bad enough to break my car.

I know a few car collectors, one in the family even, and it's definitely a rich mans game.

Modding cars shouldn't be considered an investment (unless you're some kind of sponsored race team or you plan to build a business out of your skills learned but how many people really pull that off?). Hell a car can't be an investment so modding one definitely shouldn't be ;) I look at modding as a final financial outlet... Like eating dinner at a fancy restaurant, drinking a beer or going to the strip club. Pure fun.

lol, we here rip up roads and then leave it that way for at least a good month before they get back to it.

angdefeo 10-30-2009 03:00 PM

295 is in good shape. i drove it from the delaware memorial bridge to rt 70. it was completly repaved except for the little stretch that it shares the road with rt42.

angdefeo 10-30-2009 03:05 PM

what?

there is some good news about that car. in a few more years, they will become classic's and can be imported and driven on our roads without any special modifications.

Elliott18t 10-30-2009 03:08 PM

^ yup, want one soo bad lol.

piku 10-30-2009 03:10 PM

****, the last time i drove on the NJ turnpike was, 5 years ago?

angdefeo 10-30-2009 03:13 PM

so do i. if i had the money i would buy one now and have my brothers in italy keep it in a garage and buy as many replacement parts that they can get there hands on.

i had a chance to drive in a 1995 red integrale. it was red with the tan leather interior. all i remember is the roar of the engine and exhaust. the other thing that still rings from that experience was my uncle looking to the driver who is his close friend and says "there could be 4 families crying." he accelerated to hard onto the highway that he used the shoulder to pass a slow moving tractor trailer and then zoomed into the left lane. there were 4 people going for a ride on a saturday morning.

DPancoast 10-30-2009 03:30 PM

lol my car doesnt have to make financial sense.. as long as im happy

HickRocket1258 10-30-2009 03:32 PM

Drag racing can be looked at as a business. Putting thousands of dollars into the littlest things to make your car consistent. I went to a race weekend to watch my buddy, that weekend, Friday was $5k to win, Saturday they had $10k and $5k to win, and Sunday $5k to win. Some people take it as a business. Hell, during that weekend down south, they had the $1 million race. Yes, winner actually won $1 million. The entry for that was steep though.

grimm 10-30-2009 03:36 PM

at that level hopefully you have some sort of sponsors so you don't have to eat all the cash.

Actually no. A lot of people it's cash out of the pocket. It can get pretty serious. The guy who won decided to sell the dragster he just won with so he could order a new one that I'm sure for the chassis alone will cost about $15k. Although a lot of them as well so own an auto shop of some sort, being able to write a lot of things off. A lot of people will put almost all their money into racing and have the smallest house ever. The rigs they usually own are worth about $300k itself.

CobaltSSChick 10-30-2009 03:50 PM

oh how I miss racing :(

angdefeo 10-30-2009 04:01 PM

see you later guys. i am out of the office. have a good weekend.

Roto 10-30-2009 04:05 PM

My mom married one of these guys. He was living above his 6 bay shop and owns a $200,000+ mack truck based RV/car trailer setup. Now that they're married she made him get a real house ;)

LOL. No he still races. He just has a house in addition. She goes to all the nascar races and gets drunk with him and his buddies. She's perfect for a 50+ year old guy.

russiankid 10-30-2009 11:56 PM

So I am probably going to sell my manual trans for the bimmer, but I'll pick up another one that isn't as great but will be fine.

Roto 10-31-2009 12:11 AM

Reason being the parts you can't find?

No. The driveshaft I got has the same part numbers for the two trans types this car had, but apparently the output flange is different between the two. I can sell the current trans for a good bit of money, and the money I get from it will cover another transmission to fit the driveshaft along with a new clutch. This way I can do a complete swap with just about everything new. Downside is that I would be taking a very strong transmission to a transmission that is good but if you drive like an idiot it won't last. However, I don't drive like an idiot so it will be fine and I know how to drive a manual.

I also don't want to buy another driveshaft because I don't have the money to buy another and buy the rest of the swap parts.

Roto 10-31-2009 12:35 AM

I drive like an idiot on what's thought to be a glass made tranny... no issues at all since the rebuild.
