What makes you HATE the LCP? I love mine.

Nice score on the REPR that thing is ****ing Bad to the Ass.

^very jealous. Nice toys! Want to sell the LCP? I've been thinking about getting one for a while now, just haven't found one for the right price. I don't think I'll ever really shoot it, I just want something tiny for when it's not easy to carry at work. As small as the M&P is, it's just not practical to wear while working in a body shop. Since I'll rarely shoot it and I'll only be carrying it at work where it's dusty and dirty I definitely don't want something nice, just something that goes bang.

I gave it (transferred it) to my buddy, sorry!

i didnt like how snappy it was and the construction felt cheap to me.

What about the new generation S&W Sigma 40ve, anyone have some info/reviews? And please answer only if you have experience with it and not jump on the bull**** wagon

rodder 11-14-2010 08:59 PM

A buddy of mine had a sigma in 9mm for a little while. He ended up trading it towards some other stuff. It honestly had the worst trigger of any gun I've ever fired. I wouldn't recommend one for that reason alone. Kinda ugly guns too, imo. Sorry, I'm sure that wasn't the response you were hoping for.

AutobahnRacer 11-14-2010 09:24 PM

It does help though because you actually know somebodys story. Basically I dont want replies from people going off of random online reviews. But that is helpful to know that your friend did not keep it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any good pistols (Going to be carried for PP) for 500 or below?

glock, older sig 226 or 228s are really nice too

AutobahnRacer 11-14-2010 09:41 PM

Glock under 500? You mean used right?

Munky 11-14-2010 11:22 PM

I got my Glock with a bunch of accessories for under $400 with only 300rnds through it. My buddy just got a ported Sig P229 in 357sig for under $400 as well. You just gotta look around.

^ What I was going to say. They're horrible overall. A friend of mine has a SW9VE and he was convinced it was 'awesome' until he fired other guns. It was his first and still his only gun and he had never fired another. I've shot his quite a bit and it's overwhelmingly "okay". They go bang, but that's about it. It's not exactly a good investment for any collection and not the best for relying on while carrying in my opinion. As for the 40VE, I fired one the same day I first fired an M&P and it was night and day, the M&P blew it away... and the M&Ps are known for gritty and squishy triggers right out of the box, so that should tell you something.

For a reliable carry gun around $500, I'd look at S&W M&Ps, Glock, Springfield's XDs, etc. You can get pretty much any polymer frame small-ish pistol for $450-$550.

Check these out... they're some that I found on PAFOA in like 2 seconds. I'm sure if you dig a bit you can find others.

I was never convinced that 'looking around' was actually worth it until I saw some of the deals that pop up on PAFOA. I've never once found a remotely good deal at a gun shop, even used, but some people really price things right on forums. If it's a regular gun you're looking for and not some crazy in-demand or rare gun then you can always find them relatively cheap. I just wish I would have looked around a bit more before I bought my M&P. I payed Cabela's tag price for mine :screwy:

Munky 11-14-2010 11:58 PM

I have good luck at gun shops as well as my buddy with the Sig (he got it for that price from a gun shop). I also have had good luck with Cabela's. I got my Sig there for pretty cheap compared to what they wanted for a brand new one. I used the fact that they didn't have the original case for it as a bargaining chip and talked them down a bit before buying it. You'd be amazed at what they'll do up there to make a sale on a slow day.

renn 11-15-2010 12:11 AM

going to purchase a handgun in a few months when i turn 21, just want it for shooting at a range and peace of mind having one around... probably gonna go with a glock 19 or 23. good choice?

~Brian~ 11-15-2010 12:16 AM

^Start with the 19. Easy to shoot and affordable to feed.

~Brian~ 11-15-2010 12:19 AM

So when I move into my apartment, I would like to get a safe for my XDM. Anybody have suggestions?

Hmm.. I've tried recently to get them to come down on price a bit but they wouldn't budge. I found a used Sig 229 that was a little beat up, but they still wanted a lot for it. I talked to the guy about it and he insisted that they can't do anything with the price. I even talked to another, seemingly more 'important' counter guy and they said the prices are set and that's that. I told him I had cash but just wouldn't pay the full price but they didn't care. Good to hear it worked for you though! lol

Oh wait.. you said safe? Yeah I don't do safes. lol. I guess if I had a large collection I would, but for my lone carry gun it stays in Cond. 1 within arm's reach 24/7. I guess I'm paranoid, but that's okay. lol

I would think any small pistol safe should do the trick. Just make sure to get one with a key option and not just electronic.

Targetmasters always seems to get new or slightly used police trade ins. I got my Glock 27 NIB with 2 mags For around $400. It might have even been a hair under $400.

I'll speak from experience here. I've had my SW9VE for about 1.5 years probably put about 1500 rounds through it with no problem at all except for a handful of FTF due to my reloading skills ( not pushing primer in correctly).

The factory trigger sucks but its very easy to do the work yourself and smooth it out. Currently I'd say my trigger is just as good as the one on my Glock 26. The Sigma naturally points better then the glock but the sights are a little below par. For the price I don't really think you can beat it and if your in the area your welcome to shoot mine. In fact I've been thinking about selling it to fund other projects.

AutobahnRacer 11-15-2010 12:34 PM

What are some good local/whereever for that matter, to buy guns for relatively good prices? I like TargetMaster and their knowledgeable people there, but their prices seem inclined from the price ranger of others that I have been seeing.

And since I don't have money to really spend the Ruger P95 seems to be getting good reviews, and that is specifically what I am looking for.

I absolutely LOVE the Springfield XDs. I'd recommend a plain-jane XD9. The XDm version is really nice, but since your budget is limited I wouldn't worry about things like match barrels and triggers. You can always add that stuff later if you feel it's necessary.

Seriously, you should probably be able to find them lightly used for $400 or less.

S&W M&P is also excellent (I actually own one of those too :))

...and as Brian recommended, I've heard numerous respected shooters say if you are only going to own one gun, the glock 19 should be at the top of your list. Personally I'm not a fan of glocks because of the grip angle, but try holding a few different guns and see how they fit in your hand. Some people love glocks. I'm not one of them. If the grip of a glock feels kind of "bulky" and not "point-able" to you, you will love the XD.

as for shopping around, gun stores are the last place you should look. Check the classified forums on PAFOA.org, gunbroker.com and local gun shows. Now that the Obama-panic-buying seems to have subsided I've been seeing some pretty decent deals at shows.

...now if only the price of ammo would come back down. :(

Agreed 100%. Get a crossbreed and keep the gun in the holster until it's needed.

A safe is nice to have for storing the weapon securely if you need to leave your apt unarmed for a while (like traveling to anti-gun states), but if you ever need it, locked away in a safe is the last place you'd want it.

If you thought the construction felt cheap I assume you never compared it to it's Kel-tec P3AT bretheren. LOL

too snappy?! You limp-wristed nancy-boy!! :-p:mrgreen:

My only real complaint about the LCP is the sights (or lack thereof). I've been practicing one-handed point shooting with it though and that seems to be where it really shines.
