oh yeah, and nagants are the shizz. If you just want something fun to shoot at the range, it's the best "bang for the buck" firearm you can buy, imo. |

If you're leaning towards .40 Short & Weak you might as well just go .45ACP or 10mm. I don't really see the purpose of the .40 S&W cartridge. I'd probably even take a .357 SIG over a .40 As far as I'm concerned it was developed for people who wanted more stopping power than a 9mm but were too much of a puss to handle a .45. :-p |

And fyi, the .40 is nothing more than a cut-down 10mm and actually has more force behind it than your .45 |
Truff. The 40 is actually a pretty beasty round.

I saw a few boxes of 10mm at Cabelas yesterday... first time I've ever spotted any in the wild. Actually, it's the first time I've ever even seen a 10mm round in person anywhere. That's the problem. You can buy a 10mm pistol, but good luck finding ammo. The 10mm vs. .40S&W round is like HD DVDs vs. Blu-Ray or Betamax vs. VHS cassettes... it's all great technology in its own right but the manufacturers pretty much all ended up utilizing the competition's product instead so finding it is very difficult. When it comes down to it, the performance is so similar that you might as well just go with the one that everyone else is using. .40S&W is everywhere and 10mm... not so much. Also a similar idea is .45GAP... just raises the question "what the hell were you thinking?" I mean, the PSP carry it, but for a regular shooter it's just... why?
Personally, I chose .40S&W because the M&P45C is a larger gun all around but holds two less rounds... kind of a no-brainer. |
Double Tap ammo makes some of the best if not the best 10mm ammo. If you really want a speciality round check out Double Tap's Equalizer ammo.

The fact that a .40 is a cut down 10mm should say it all.

Just FYI, I carry either a .380, 9mm, or 45ACP depending on the weather and my clothing, ie: the more clothes I have on the larger the weapon is that I'm carrying. 10mm might be hard to find at your local gun shop, but I always see plenty of it at gun shows and I'm sure you can find it online. |
Got a new IWB holster Wednesday. Might not be everyone's cup of noodles but I really like it and am happy so far with the purchase. It's the Triton by Galco for my Glock 19. I've been searching for a full kydex IWB holster that wasn't too pricey. I had a Comptac Minotaur for my Kimber UCII and almost bought one for the G19 before coming across this Galco. Allows me to reholster with only one hand which is exactly what I was looking for. Rides comfortable and even has a slight forward cant for a nice smooth draw. I have to adjust the retention a little because right now it's super tight since it hasn't been broken in yet. But for a good conceal IWB holster for under $40 shipped I have no real complaints yet.
Pic of the holster. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519k2hfwpvL.jpg I also purchased these loops for it as well just incase I don't feel the clip is a good enough option. http://images1.opticsplanet.com/180-...ps-tbl13-4.png |

I was thinking about ordering a Raven Concealment IWB holster, but the wait time is 1 year+, which is ridiculous. lol |
I'm a large fellow and I don't have any rubbing, scratching or digging occurring. I honestly don't even feel it when walking around. When sitting in my truck it did get pushed into me a little by my seat-belt but after a quick adjustment that was alleviated. My boxers sit between it and my skin so it doesn't scratch me at all. The other thing that I really like about it is that it has kydex that goes all the way up and protects me from the slide as well.

Dave - I took your advice and bought the DeSantis Cozy Partner holster... I love it! I decided to give leather a try instead of kydex and I think I've found the best option for me. There's very little movement even with my belt set one notch looser. With my crappy nylon holster I had to tighten the s*** out of my belt just to hold it in place. The leather is also smooth on the inside against my boxers so it can slide a bit as I move, so I think that helps with comfort a lot. The nylon one gripped tight to both my pants and boxers so it pulled as I sat down. I went to The Handgunner in Topton and this holster was $52.xx out the door, but Classic Pistol had it on the shelf for $79.xx. That said, it was definitely an impulse buy since it was so much cheaper. Glad I went with it though.
On another note, since I've decided to keep my M&P for sure, I figured I'd work it a bit and make it a little more 'mine'. I just ordered the APEX Tactical DCAEK (Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit), which replaces the sear, striker block, and sear spring. It's supposed to completely get rid of the gritty M&P trigger feeling while tightening everything up and giving a very crisp trigger break. People who know lots more than me about the subject say it's the best trigger they've ever felt on a polymer pistol. I also ordered the Crimson Trace laser grips. My brother got me a crazy good price on them through his work so I guess I'll try it out. I'm also switching out the rear sight for a Heinie Ledge serrated sight and the front for either a Dawson or Warren Tactical fiber optic sight. With the CT laser grip there's not really a reason to have night sights. Even if I decide to get rid of the CT grip, night sights barely function right out of a completely-dark holster anyway, so I might as well have a good day sight! With these things all done I think this M&P should turn into quite the perfect carry gun. I think another range day is in order. |
