I've been tossing around the idea of getting a 229 for a loooong time now. I'd love to, but I realized that there's no way I can get rid of my M&P to pay for it, so I'll have to wait for the extra cash, but I'll have one soon. lol.

This seems like a really good deal, definitely worth checking out if the guy didn't sell it yet... http://forum.pafoa.org/firearms-6/11...tras-ammo.html

~Brian~ 10-24-2010 12:02 AM

Well that's my problem too... I would need to sell my .40 first to get the cash to buy the Sig. That is, unless I calculate the cost of the new gun into my student loans that I am about to get... haha

dragonfly2k3 10-24-2010 12:16 AM

I'm picking up a p250c on tuesday. When is the next tst range day?

Munky 10-24-2010 12:28 AM

Don't get me wrong I love my P229 and all but I find myself carrying my Glock more and more over the Sig due to the weight of the Sig.

i actually have my eye on a sig 556, its just a lot shorter than the one i sold you  i had to leave the revolver at CP for a recrowning and champfering as well as a lighter trigger spring, after i get that back and pay off this REPR i am going head first into NFA

i read about that, kinda made me nervous though... was it well controlled? I am sure it was way different than i was picturing in my head haha

That's exactly why I can't get rid of my M&P. Although I love the 229 and I could easily carry it, I think I'd carry it less because of the weight and size. The 229 will mainly be a range gun.

It was very controlled, but not to the point where the shooters felt constricted. I talked to a few of them and watched for a while and it was a very laid back and fun yet safe day. During the event it was a 'cold' range, and all shotguns/rifles had to have chamber flags in place. Pistols were all holstered with the mag out. There were 2-3 range officers per stage (9 stages total) who kept a close watch on everything, but it was obvious that they realized that the kind of people going to a 'zombie shoot' 3-gun style range day don't need constant babysitting. They were there to run things and officiate, but they weren't on everyone's case about everything every second they were on the property.

Not sure if you've ever seen 3-gun matches before, this event was more of a 'shoot' than a match. As far as I could tell there was no one keeping serious score and each stage was treated like an amusement park ride. You shoot the stage then exit the range and get back in line if you want to do it again or just move on to the next one. I've been thinking about getting into some more serious shooting lately and I think I've found the style that I'd like to do. The whole 3-gun format seems like a crapload of fun!

Here's the layout of the gun club...

http://www.nhrpc.org/uploads/NHRPC_Plot.pdf

It's about as far of a drive as Classic Pistol for me (1 hr +), but the other direction. It's $120 the first year (I think) and $60 each year after. I'm thinking about joining since it's the only range around that seems to be truly black gun friendly. A guy told me that last weekend they had a suppressor-only shoot at night w/nightvision, etc.... Way out of my league, but that's the kind of club I'd like to join!

just join CPI and you can come shoot my toys while you save for your own! i have a few interesting ones on their way in haha, i also would like to get into some sort of competitive shooting just dont know where to start, im pretty decent with bullseye shooting but as far as the "run and gun" method (which 3 gun appears to be) i dont have the faintest clue, although i am pretty sure i have the appropriate weaponry to be a contender

::edit:: that place looks awesome! if you do join you have to let me come shoot! the REPR and 98Bravo would be at home with that 600 yard range

~Brian~ 10-24-2010 08:25 PM

Missing my gun, can't wait to get it back in a few months.

ein 10-25-2010 12:34 AM

Anyone selling a shotgun? I'm looking at getting one for trap shooting.

I'm looking for a left handed semi-auto for a left handed shooter preferably 20GA

...or I'm looking for a 12 GA over-under, semi-auto...

I'd prefer a wood stock (not really into the gaudy metalwork either) PM me if you have something that might fit the bill...

DC2.2GSR 10-25-2010 06:23 PM

Everyone who has any interest in guns whatsoever should turn on the Meehan/Lentz debate ASAP. There's nothing phenomenal about Meehan, but Bryan Lentz's mouth is a filth factory. He's spreading blatant lies and repeating them over and over again so they become ingrained in impressionable minds. His bulls*** smear campaign against Meehan saying that he supports the right of criminals to carry guns via the make-believe "Florida gun loophole" is so whacked out, but people are listening. Make sure you vote against Lentz.

dragonfly2k3 10-25-2010 07:17 PM

I have not seen any of it yet, but if what I'm hearing is true, lentz is a total moron. Its a shame this country is slowly falling for deceitful, filth-filled maniacs everywhere. We don't need pa to end up down the ****ter as well. I will vote anti lentz.

I just watched the post-debate interview of Lentz and he did nothing but repeat his 4-5 talking points from the debate and continue to smear Meehan. He says Meehan is "far right" and is using Republican talking points, yet all he can do is repeat the same lies and drop buzzwords.

The Florida thing really pisses me off. All kinds of consciously incompetent sheep are going to hear "guns" followed by "..in the hands of violent criminals" and "Florida loophole" and think that Lentz has the right idea. What they refuse to a.)research and learn for themselves or b.) refuse to accept as truth is that there is absolutely NO Florida loophole, it's an invented false issue and it's nothing more than an attack campaign against gun owners and gun rights supporters. It's literally a concept that was imagined in make believe land - probably by some CeaseFirePA whackjob who doesn't understand anything about gun laws.

It would make just as much sense to say "Bryan Lentz supports the sex offender loophole that allows convicted violent sex offenders to become elementary school teachers and conduct private tutoring at their house after school." It would be laughably ridiculous except for the fact that it's so f***ed up. It's the same with the fake Florida "gun loophole".

dragonfly2k3 10-25-2010 08:51 PM

The "loophole" only pertains to those who were denied permits based on the "bad reputation" cluase. Not those who have been convicted of violent crimes. Florida runs the same background check we do.

I would like very much to shoot some zombies. :)

I've been looking into 3-gun recently as well. Not really to compete, just because it looks fun as ****.

Same here. I don't care if I win or not, it just looks real fun. I just want to shoot something other than paper hanging 7 yds away. lol. Even though it's great to get out and shoot anywhere, having my only option be the typical 'stand in the lane and shoot there or else' shooting, it gets real old real fast.

cmr076 10-26-2010 09:51 PM

went shooting tonight, god i love my TRP, since owning it i must have put 5000 rounds through her (in under 6 months) it literally never gets old.

DC2, i want to come out your way with the REPR and do some distance shooting, the place you were talking about joining looks badass... too far for me to join but id love to come out and shoot! do they allow NFA/full auto?

05OCsrt-4 10-26-2010 10:05 PM

Before I post this I want to say i have done a lot of reading, reviews, ratings and such. Also shot a lot of 9mms to try them out. I am looking for a pretty accurate (I know most of it depends on the shooter), durable 9mm. I have pretty much got it down to the glock 19, anyone have any recommendations for 9mm handguns?

I have two G19s, are you looking for a compact, sub or full size? do you care about external safetys? what type of capacity are you looking for? whats your budget?

My vote would be a glock for a reasonably priced piece and a sig for a little more expensive, although after shooting DC2's M&P i really liked that as well as far as sub compacts go.

If you want to come shoot one day your more than welcome to try a few of mine, glocks, beretta, 1911s. i dont personally have a sig 9mm or an M&P but i have friends who would let me borrow theirs if you wanted to try them out...

Out of curiosity why do you want a 9mm?

I have a glock 23, just trying to get a different caliber, more so one that costs a little less to shoot 2-3 times a week. I'm looking more into the compact size, I shot a taurus, didn't like, too much trigger pull. The XD9 felt almost like the glock in my opinion. As for the budget, honetsly there isn't one. You can't put a price on a nice feeling gun. Looking for maybe 10 rounds+ type of capacity and safeties don't really concern me too much whether they're external or not.

I don't know about full auto, but I know they're cool with all other NFA as long as you have a copy of your stamp handy just in case. I saw a bunch of guys walking around with suppressors and/or SBRs at the zombie shoot.

I'd love to join that club but I don't think I will until I have a rifle to play with. There's a club near me that has a 300 yd range, but I don't know where it is. I drove past once and now I can't find it. lol. All the searching on PAFOA has come up with nothing, so maybe it's a private range and not a club. I dunno.

As for the 9mm recommendation, I'd say the M&P for sure. I've never shot a 9mm M&P but the ones in .40 and .45 are very nice. My .40 S&W Compact is snappy, but very controllable with the pinky extension floorplate on the magazine. With the flat plate on the spare mag that comes with every M&P it gets a little loose and harder to control when shooting fast. Within about 3 mags worth of shooting I got used to the recoil of the .40 S&W, so the 9mm should be a soft shooter for sure. They seem to have gotten a bad reputation as far as the trigger goes, but honestly I like my trigger better than most I've felt. It has a bit of 'squish' to it right before it breaks, but it's really not noticeable unless you're regularly a 1911 shooter. Glocks have, in my opinion, some of the sloppiest triggers of any gun out there, so if you're alright with the Glock trigger, the M&P is going to feel very crisp.

For all around comfort - you really can't get much better than an M&P. If you 'try one on' at a shop, ask to try the different backstraps that are included with each gun. There's a Sm, Md, and Lg one. I used to use the small since that's what came installed on the gun and the only one I felt at the gun shop. Now, after shooting a lot with each size backstrap, I'm up to the large one. It gives a lot more control.

Just make sure you avoid the recent production models with mag safeties and external thumb safeties at all costs. The thumb safety has to be modified if you want to use the CT Laser grips and for a few other things, and it's just a dumb idea to have a safety on a non-1911 anyway. lol. As for the magazine safety... really really bad idea if you're going to carry it, even once or twice. With the magazine out, even with a round in the chamber the gun will not fire. It's incredibly dangerous on a carry gun.
